Hello, HOGs.....
I was just thinking (scary, ain't it) that it might be a good idea to establish a WTB database for the rarities that everyone wants. I'd be willing to do it, if it gets approval from the trough.
It would be really simple to do, and I could post it on the first of every month, or something like that.
Let's say 10 items at most for each piglike creature, and include as much detailed info as possible about the description of the item you want and if you have stuff for trade or cash, or whatever.... and your email address or other contact info.
As far as keeping it updated, well.....
I could put the most updated want ads at the top, and after 6 months, deleting the ad if I haven't heard anything
How does that sound?

Why not give Spark his props and do a thread over in the WTB......;)

To do otherwise would not be  IMHO.......

PLEASE, let's not get caught up in details yet. If there's a reason you don't want it in this forum, please PM me. I WILL check with Spark and Jerry, and if everyone feels that it would be best posted in the WTB, then I'll post it there. But until I get more feedback, I don't even know if this is going to happen.
Thanks.

I agree that the current WTB forum is the place for it, but searching for "Busse" in any forum never yields me any results, too many occurances for the search engine to return the results as I recall. Now if we could come up with a word to include in our WTB threads that would flag a "Busse WTB" then we could search for ourselves. Now the word would have to be something fairly unrelated to the knife industry so as to try and avoid cross referencing other non Busse WTB threads. Does that make sense to anyone?

How about we just add "hogitis" within the thread and that might serve to flag it as a Busse WTB, just like at the end or something.

Yes, it does, however....
with everyone's participation, newbies can pointed to the thread.
Also, Since I expect it's going to be maybe two pages or so, it's going to have a lot of terms that will come up.
FWI, I don't plan to let it get to be a 1000 page thread, after a couple of pages of postings, I'll just repost.
I want to keep it simple, but organized, I'll probably revise a couple times to make sure everyone happy, and to make sure it's understandable: (Maybe I will organize it by model, but I'm not sure yet)
Basically it will look like this:
Walking Man (3/12/2006) :
1) Busse Execution axe: Have been looking for this for 14 years. I will tatoo your name across my head in addition to big $$$$$
2) Original American Ak: I would prefer one with black coating, but I will consider other. Will pay cash or partial trade for cash + skeleton key.
Porkgunner (3/15/2006)
1) Busse Spam Spaltula: I would prefer the fusion model, but the e Handle would be okay if nothing else turns up. I have the straight handle version that I would be willing to trade for this.
2) Busse full size HOG skewer - I've been looking for one in INFI so I can roast pigs for my dog's birthday. I am willing to pay $200, or $800 for the custom serrated version.

I commend the spirit of your idea Ed, but I think you are trying to reinvent the wheel buddy. Why do that when something like what I suggested will make what is already available work for us?

Here's why:
Because there's a lot of rare pieces out there that might be owned by infrequent BFers. This way, every HOG will know what everyone else is looking for and can help each other out better. It's not something that would be needed for every piece of INFI you want, just stuff that you haven't been able to get a hold of, but are sick of posting WTB ads,..... Like the axe, or a 10" BB steel Heart. or a Bird and trout, or a field grade Busse.
Does that make sense?
Personally, I have a couple rarities that I would like to get a hold of, but it tries my patience to keep posting them, and I know it will probably be a while before they come up, but if they do, I'd like it to be known that I'm interested. So, with the database, this problem is solved! Yes, I will benefit for this, but so will anyone else who has been looking for an elusive piece.

That's all part of the hunt man. Persistence helps define the Hog. If it were easy it wouldn't be worth it. It's scouring the internet. Waiting on that one piece you've been looking for.
Plus if two people are looking for the same thing in your thread who's the seller supposed to choose? The way the WTB section works now if you don't do you're part and keep it up there for people to see then it's your own fault.
Plus a new piglet can't blame you if someone got the knife they wanted just because you had just deleted their entry because you hadn't heard anything.

If you want that elusive piece, do it the same way the rest of us had to. Most of the hard to find pieces I have I had to work to get. I didn't just post something and sit back and wait for it to come to me.

I commend your desire to streamline things but I don't know that it would really help in the long run.

Well said Mike. :)

Hey, look.... If you don't want to participate because you think it makes things too easy, that's fine, but I'm looking for support here, guys. I'd be happy to do all of the work, if it's something x number of people want to do.

Yes, but it's even more than that. I'm trying to help everyone help each other out.

Not according to your first post.

You asked how the sounds. Several people have brought up their thoughts, as well as potential issues with it. Sounds to me you have your mind made up no matter what anyone says.

The WTB forums will allow you to bring a "hot" want back up by posting "Back To The Top" in your original post, so re-posting is not required.....

As has been said, if you don't, tuff.

The responsibility is on the buyer to make known their desires.

What is the difference between that and someone who decides he has Item A for sale but only 1 week earlier you had deleted some hogs WTB in the "database" because you "didn't hear anything"??

Is that too bad for the guy whose entry you deleted?

Are you willing to take the fallout for that?

It is up to the indvidual looking to manage their own WTB, based on their level of desire.

Were the WTB forums not already there, this would be a great idea, but they are, and they leave the market up to the buyer and the seller to manage their own side of a potential deal.

As tragic as that may sound to some people, it's still fair.

I agree that the WTB section we already have does not work all the time. I have found Busses from posting wtb adds. I've also posted, and continued to update, my wtb add and someone would post the exact knife that I had an "updated" add for on the for-sale forum and I would miss it. Now that is frustrating. I have literally yelled at the computer "Don't you read the freakin WTB section"?!?! Even so, it is still technically fair.

I do think your idea is a good one but it would push a little toward the "Good ole Boy" club idea. Maybe.

Anyone could also just email a fellow BroHog, I've done it many times before in the past and generally found what I wanted.:)
