. . . like me :grumpy:

I only found out just recently about the latest and improved version of the RAT-3 (made by the RAT folks themselves and not thru Ontario Knife Co. anymore).

Most notable change was it addressed what I, and I suspect what other folks out there felt when we we handled the original one; the handle felt a bit short for this very functional design. Also comes with with a "jump-proof" MOLLE sheath.

Seems an improvement in some ways, but I don't know why they'd add the glass breaker pommel. The original is better for carry and batoning, if one every needs to, on the end.

The handle still feels a bit short.

I haven't really tried it out much, but aside from the too-short handle feel, it seems like a really nice little knife. Maybe get a chance to play with it more this weekend.

I complained to Jeff about it being too thin for duty-related usage. ( 1/8 " thick)
Jeff was great about it and "stepped up to the plate". He stated that if I snapped the blade during duty usage, that he's take care of me and replace the knife.
Not too many people would do that...I admire the guy even more now. I'm going to be buying more of Jeff's products when they become available, just because he's a good guy and stands behind his product. I have the exact same set up as Doc's.

I wonder if I can order just the new sheath? I hate the way the old sheath carries. Chris

EDIT:

That is the main reason I bought the knife, I thought it would be thin enough to cut well.:D

Looks like a complete copy of Swamp Rats Howling Rat design to me.

Skam

Jeez, do you ever have anything good to say. This style of knife has been made since og chipped one out of flint.

The handle materials and steel may change but that's about it. Chris

I like the new design better--it has a longer handle than the other. It suprised me they did the pointy pommel too, but in actual use, it is not a big deal--it is not in the way like I thought it would be.

So can the "MOLLE" sheath be carried on a normal belt or do you need a specific MOLLE platform to mount it to?

Also does anyone have a photo of the sheath and all the bits and peices it comes with? I understand it comes with a boot clip but if you want a tek-lok you have to purchase that seperate. Is that right?

Thanks

You can wear it on a normal belt...just slip your belt under that vertical (horizontal in the pic) nylon/velcro strap on the back of the sheath. Yes, it comes with a clip attachment that you can wear on a boot or belt. And, yep again, you have to come up with your own Tek-lok.

I love the knives, but wish they weren't so expensive, hopefully I'll save up some $ and buy one.

Hey Doc-Canada

How about a shot with the RC-3 in the Hand?
One half way through a log would be nice too :)

Anyone know how snug the sheath is?

Also why dont they allow other colour choices for sheaths I dont like tan at all and much prefer black or OD.

In the pic on the website it looks like it has green liners, does it?

It is very snug. It would hold the knife inverted without any problem.

That's a good question. I don't like the tan either, so I may order a black one down the road.

Yes.

Doc

I would say they're quite subdued. I told kgd I would take a picture of it in the hand. Hopefully, I'll get that done, this weekend. If I remember, I'll also take a shot that shows the liners. If I forget, remind me.
