New rehardened and regrinds blades

[...]the S90V pops hair like a champ, and they really slice WAY better than the ultra polished edges can on thick, abrasive stuff like pig skin and thick rope.
I'll try this on mine, I've been playing with different finishes.

The .05 micron edges are pretty amazing when whittling, push cutting cardboard, or pretty much push cutting anything else. They also will do an irritation free shave on your face if you wish.

This is more impressive than most people give it credit for, IMO. I've got to get some of this, you must have a really light touch...

any updates on the performance of these knives, Gator? I'm still very envious of them.

If my M4 Rift gets fixed by Benchmade (it has vertical blade play) I will send the blade off to Phil Wilson for a likely regrind and re heat treat to 65RC. Phil says he has seen excellent performance at that hardness for CPM M4 with no chippyness on a thin edge. I can't wait to see what Phil can do to M4, as I have used an S30V knife he really transformed from crap to a crisp edged cutting machine, and all of Gator's knives are looking like great performers after Phil did his heat treating magic on them. I really wish Benchmade didn't coat the M4 blades as the coating just burns off in a re heat treat to leave it's ugly rough finish underneath exposed. A little grinding work and elbow grease should get the blade looking OK though. The thought of a .010" high hollow gring in M4 at 65 RC is pretty exciting, and I can see it being one of my favorite folders ever. We'll see once it is done, but I have high hopes for it right now.

That'd be a perfect meeting of the makers, Mike. An Osborne outline reperfected by Wilson just sounds way too incredible.

No updates since the last sharpening/testing session. Knife steel charts ver. 2 is in the works and taking a lot of time. Plus adding new steels/fixing data for the current version.
I plan to have another sharpening done this weekend and do one more run of testing, but that's been the case for last 3 weekends...

P.S. And obviously, all the best sources for steel info are paid... Anywhere from 100-500$ for membership.. Just to get the damn compositions and name conventions...
