With some of the recent talk about Sunfish patterned knives, I thought that everyone would like to see these new releases from GEC. These are under their Tidioute line and another release under the Northfield line with stag, snakewood, and ebony is soon to come.

Apparently these are built a bit differently from their earlier release. These new ones have all steel bolsters, liners, and pins. The older releases had brass liners, and pins with nickel silver bolsters.

These new ones should be some tough knives!!

I really like the fact that these have "clean" blades with no etchings on them which is not common for GEC knives.

Plus they have a cool label on the box :D

Nice looking knives.

The writings on the blade don't take much effort to remove.

I do like the brass liners though, because they add nice contrast when the carbon is patinated. I do like the idea of steel bolsters though, since they would get patina nicely (while nickelsilver doesn't?).

Speaking of that, I couldn't resist putting patina on my new sunfish! :D

And nice JD reference on the label! :D

*sighs* when ever knife is GEC I know I am screwed... and my wallet tries to escape. Beautiful releases. I'll be waiting Texas Yellow Rose version of Sunfish :D... when ever it might be released...

I think I prefer the brass liners as well, but I also think the steel bolters as well as the steel pins are nice additions. I could not find any info if the bolsters and liners are made from the same steel as the blades and as a result will patina like the blade will.

hope i do'nt have to be the 1st or us to buy & show a good pic. however i believe the ebony will be a must have.

On all but the Cocobolo, there were less than 20ea made. Some had less than 5. All Tidioute variations are in stores now; to include the Amber in both a large jig l(more tan) bone variation and a small jig (more blond) bone variation.
