New Rifle

Hey everyone,

Just picked this up a bit ago and thought I would share with my friends. It is a Remington 700 with a custom stock. One of the nicest stocks I have seen and definitely the prettiest stocked rifle I have. This one is chambered in .270. I can't wait to get it sighted in and take it to deer camp this year.

Anybody else into pretty stocked rifles?

Garth

Very nice, except the bolt is on the wrong side... :-)

Garth: The burl figure is amazing on your rifle. Here is one of my better ones but doesn't get out much:

man Garth, you have some great taste. I've never seen you post one of your toys that didn't make me drool

Very, very nice, GR. That monte carlo stock should give you a nice cheek-weld and sight picture. I hope it proves itself as a shooter for you. Congrats.

That's a very good looking piece of wood on that one!

I have an old 700 in 7mm rem mag that's not as pretty but it makes up for being average looking by being a very very accurate rifle.
I enjoy shooting .270, I've taken a few deer with it and found that it has MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER to do the job. I've never needed to track one that I shot with that caliber, they drop within a few yards which is helpful because my .270 is a Ruger #1 single shot rifle with the falling block lever action, reloading takes a few moments.

Good luck this season

Drop dead gorgeous rifle, Garth. Congratulations. Is that a factory stock???

You may remember the rifle I had built for my wife. It's pretty too, but I think you've got it beat. Maybe we can compare in Kentucky this year ;)

The stock maker sent me some of the wood scraps so I could do matching knife handles one day. I'd imagine that being something you'd enjoy too. Especially for the family.

The guy who did our stock is Joel Russo, here's his website: http://www.russoriflestocks.com/
Ours is actually the third one down on the main page. Check out his gallery for some really amazing work. Don't fall too far in love though, I don't think he's taking on any more stock work for quite some time!

very nice looking rifle!

the only wood I have right now is a factory stock on a cz527. nothing special but i still seem to get a new pressur mark on it everytime i even take it out to look at it. not sire I could handle a scratch on something really nice like the ones you guys are posting. but i do think I should grab me a nice .308 at some point.

Have a Weatherby Eurosport in 257 Wby that has an oil finish matte Monte Carlo stock. Beautiful rifle that shoots dime sized groups with boring regularity. It was my antelope rifle but could never get myself to drag it through the sage brush on a hunt. It now wears a B&C Medalist stock and doing what it is supposed to do.

Exotic wood grips on my 1911 is how I scratch the itch now.
