Last week I got a new varminter. A Savage Arms Mark II synthetic with s/s barrell. Nice short and light rifle and the accutrigger is brilliant.

I wacked a Simmonds whitetail scope on it and man it is accurate!

What do you guys use for a varminter.

And before the responses come, its not fair! :(

Remington .223 with stainless fluted barrel.
HS stock and Leuopold Vari-X 8.5-25

edit-thought we were talking one rifle. My favorite varmit style handgun is the XP-100 in my avavtar, .850 pac nor topped with 3x12 Burris
Fav Rimfires- Cooper/Anschutz USA(54action stocked and sold by Cooper)Vari-X 4.5x14, Fav rimfire handgun- Anschutz Exemplar(older wood version) with 3x9 Burris

Remington 700VS .22-250. Topped with a Leupold Vari-X 6.5-20. My back up is an H$K SL-8 in .223

CZ chambered for .204 Ruger. It has a set trigger and shoots very well. Great for coyotes.

I also have a Rock River Arms Varmint with a 16" stainless-steel bull barrel. That will shoot under .25 an inch at a hundred. I topped it off with a 4.5-14x.40 leupold VXIII. It's a blast for grey diggers too.

I have a .17HMR in a savage with the accu-trigger. I'd like to get one of the center fires with that trigger.

can't say I have ever Varminted, but I guess I could. I have a Savage 10FCP HS Precision in .308 with Super Sniper 10x42M.

Tikka Stainless Synthetic Hunter in .243 Winchester with Zeiss Conquest 3.5-10X.

This is my favorite all around rifle that I use for plinking, target shooting, and varminting. I would feel comfortable hunting deer and small-medium size wild pigs with it.

Don't necessarily "varmint" as such, but my Remington 660 in .308 hasn't failed me yet! :D

I've got one rifle that I do everything with, a Marlin 336C in 30-30. I put some XS ghost ring sights on it, and I'm good to go for any shot out to around 150 yards.

In bolt actions, for little critters or plinking I use my Kimber SVT in .22LR with Leupold , and for the bigger stuff or longer distance I use my Remington 700 5-R in .308 with Leupold Mark 4 Tactical.

sorry for the bad pics, need to work on these...

If a semi-auto is called for, then I grab an Armalite, either an AR-10(7.62mm) or AR-15(5.56mm), both with Leupold Tacticals.

and for runnin' & gunnin'(3gun matchs), I use a Bushmaster M-Forgery in 5.56mm, with all the extra bells and whistles and a Leupold Mark 4 CQT,
Remington Competition Master in 12ga, and a Glock 21C(.45)

Old 1980'ish RIA m-16a1 (semi-auto) with heavy stainless match barrel - .223. Still shoots great!

This one will pull coyote duty this spring...

Have been looking to get another black rifle, My colt HBAR with trigger job shoots OK, but not great. Would you say the 556 is as accurate as the standard HBAR?
And how is the stock trigger?
Been looking at these real hard but don't know anyone that has shot one.

Another Savage model 10 .308 with synthetic stock, accu-trigger and Leupold.

Favorite before that was a Remington 700 classic .243 with Leupold. It was insanely accurate.

The trigger is 'different', not a noticeable 'takeup' before the break - as compared to the AR. The 556 has a slight 'stack' sensation, then a very, very smooth break.

I actually haven't shot this one, yet, hence the coyote duty for the Spring. I hope to sight it in this weekend, will report back.

My buddy has the 556SWAT, and he likes it very well, says it's accurate, but I can't remember his group sizes...
