New rifle

one will pull coyote duty this spring...

Hey, I think you're copying me!!!
You won't be dissapointed with the rifle. I just sighted it in last week. 25 yard groups were .3" and at 100 yards I averaged 1.0-1.8" ammo dependant. Be prepared though it is kind of a pain to clean, up front that is! .45 cal bore snake works great for the gas tube. No jams with 300 rounds out of P-Mags. I almost forgot how expensive ammo is getting until shooting this. You'd think they make it out of infi!!

Guess I'm out of touch with current trends.
I use an old Ruger M77 in .220 Swift topped with a Leupold 10X.

I use a Rem700 .308, with 3-9x44 or fixed 10x for the long range stuff, but the 0-300m shots get the carbine... :D

Remington 788 in 7mm08 I've had over 25yrs Tac driver with a 3x9x50 leupold

Nice rifles!! Wish I had one  Speaking of which, I should probably buy one soon (I have plenty of handguns) before I get married. Then I may not be allowed, broke, or both :D If I could buy just TWO rifles what would you guys who are 'in the know' recommend?

CS, you can never go wrong with any of the 308 cals. They are one of the good allrounders for any game. Loud, but good. Then again, you have triple the choice or more compared to us here.

In bolt actions, for little critters or plinking I use my Kimber SVT in .22LR with Leupold , and for the bigger stuff or longer distance I use my Remington 700 5-R in .308 with Leupold Mark 4 Tactical.
and for runnin' & gunnin'(3gun matchs), I use a Bushmaster M-Forgery in 5.56mm, with all the extra bells and whistles and a Leupold Mark 4 CQT,
Remington Competition Master in 12ga, and a Glock 21C(.45)

Nice guns! Did that stock come with the 870? I like the looks of it.

The caliber of choice out here for varmints is a .22-250 remington.
