Picked up a new Rookie Sprint Run FG G10 to go with my original black one, and MAN is it ever THIN now! The G10 on the old version is as thick as the G10 + the steel liner of the new one.

Anyone know the reason for this slimming down? The knife carries nicely, but feels more delicate than the original. Still a great piece, just not as great as the original.

Here's another Spyderco that I thought the same about. Who can guess the model?

I love the slimness, especially when you wear the knife inside your waistband.

I think this is a plus not a negative

Okay, you got it narrowed down.:p

Yup, ocelot is my guess (despite NEVER handling one).

How exactly does the having steel liners make it more delicate ;)?

It's the Ocelot, jimping on the front should have gave it away.
It's a very thin knife to have G-10 and steel liners.

Thin g10 with a liner is different that thin g10 with no liner. One scale on the rookie has no liner, that's what worries me a little. I'll report if there is ever an issue. None yet, and I carry it clipless in pocket with the rest of my keys, change, etc...

Little folding pocket knives don't need dual liners unless the clip rotates to all four positions. Other than the providing a solid footing for clip screws the only other reason for dual liners is that is what the market currently wants.

Jill, that Starmate is another grail of mine. And you've got the PE version. Even more rare. How did you manage to score that one?

I really like the thin handle on the rookie, it carries so well and you hardly know its there. My Reserve unit did some escape and evasion style training over the weekend and the Rookie was the only knife I had on me (no web gear allowed and they searched us for items). I used it a tone over the weekend and it performed very well.

My Dad bought that new for about 100 dollars in 2000, I believe.
I begged him out of it:D
Here it is in all of it's holy grail glory...

I need that one to add to my Golden collection. Beautiful knife!
I'm definitely going to grab a couple of the Terzuola Slipits when they're released. :)
