Here my first update on my little NOe project as promised

Background:
I snaged NOe for a real good price. It was stripped and the scales were modified by the pre-owner.
Very good candidate for some further modification :D

I had to think about it for a while if I really should do this because the knive would make a great user even with the ugly scales.
I finally stopped waffeling and just did it

Removed scales

Polished side face, Choil and holes

Home made satin finish with ZT grind blade edge

Next step will be removal of remaining coating and making a satin finish on ri casso and pommel.

To be continued.

Thanks

Wicked

Nice... I've always wondered what it looks like under the scales. Did the scales just come off after you removed the tube fasteners or do they "stick" to the blade? Thanks.

Great looking project Wicked.

I believe it will be worth all the work when you are finished.

A little off topic, but...

Why do Imageshack photos always include a pot load of pop ups with the picture?

Am I using the wrong pop up blocker?

The scales are very easy to remove.
Just drilled away one side of the fastener and off the were.
No adhesives used on the scales.

I use firefox with "ad block plus" plug in and I don't see any popups.
Maybe I should post the pictures instead of thumbnails.

Question, how do you remove the tube fasteners?

Just drilled the head on one side off.

Thanks for the update wicked! I really enjoy the project threads.

Looks like it's starting to come alive bro...looking forward to see what you do for scales. BTW, nice job on the ZT grind.

Wicked, I really like your project and your progress, definitly keep us posted.

I'm really curious if your going to stay with the tube fasteners when you put the (new?) scales on.

Are you going to order new scales or tube fasteners from Busse?Patrick

Here is a update of my little scale swap project :)

Blade handle cleaned and ready to get the final satin finish

First riveting test with original scales

Center shows original fastener right hand my self made fastener.
Surface is a little dull from could forming but this should be easy to polish.

Looks like the hardest thing will be to find Micarta or G10 in the required size over here.
If anyone knows a source please let me know.

Looking great!

The only place online I've found for scales is TruGrit (http://www.truegrit.com/knife-handle-material.htm) But they are in Ontario Canada and I have yet to order from them. You might want to check out the knife makes side of BF to get some other reccomendations. TruGrit only offers G-10 in 3/8" thick... don't know if you are looking for anything thicker.

So... what did you use as your rivit/fastener? How did you flare it out?

Foo

Looks like the link is dead. :o

I used No 4 stainless steel tube to make the fasteners.

I flared the tube fastener with the heads of two countersung bolts and a vice.
This was the easiest way I could think off and it workes very well.
Had a real hard time to get it off again.
