Here is the Schatt & Morgan Wharncliffe I ordered. This knife has been advertised at 4 1/4" closed but when I measured it with my calipers, it measured 4 1/8"closed. The blade is 3 1/4". I'd rate the pull as 5 to 6 on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being the highest and the Snap is sharp/positive. The swedge is not prominent as the blade is a bit on the thin side and there isn't enough meat in it to cut a prominent swedge. That said, the swedge is nicely and evenly cut from side to side. The knife does have a half-stop. The spring is flush with the bolster when closed, at half-stop, and when fully opened BUT the top of the tang rides just shy of 1/8" from the top of the spring when fully opened. Further, there is a gap (allbeit minor) say 1/64" between the spring and the liners the length of the handles on both sides. What with the low setting tang at the spring and the gap along the spring and bolster, I'd have to say the fit on this knife is fair. The bolster and endcap have some scratches. They are not too prominent but are prominent enough to see with the naked eye without a magnifying glass. There was also a chip in the scale on the shield side right next to the endcap that I managed to polish out about 90% but it can still be seen with the naked eye. I'd have to say the finish on this knife is fair. The blade is sharp enough out of the box to shave and slice paper but is not razor sharp. Actually, this is as I like it as it allows me to more easily profile the edge to my liking. I like the large Wharncliffe blade. It is very well done. Here are some pictures.

What with the blemishes (although minor) this will definitely be a carrying/using knife with no thought or hesitation as to babying it.

EDIT: I am adding these photos to show the gaps between the liners and the spring and to show how in the fully opened position, the blade tang sits below the spring. I might be picky but didn't expect this from a Schatt & Morgan knife.

They weren't kidding when they said mirror polish. fantastic looking knife. gives me more to think of while i consider ordering one for myself.

I like this pattern and i appreciate your comments. The S&M line from Queen really should have a fit superior to what your knife has. For me, any gap between liners and spring is not acceptable in a S&M. I'll hold off getting one in the hopes that future production will get the F & F up to their former standard.

Looks good.

My EDC is a somewhat more modern wharncliffe :o, but it's really a great blade profile.

I am a little surprised by the fit.

How's the other side look?

Very nice looking knife. That is one alternative for traditional knife I'm buying in sometimes late August.

Looks nice. I like the handle color...nice and light. Blade turns out to be a good using and carrying size too. I have an Otha about the same size and rides in the pocket just right. Thank you for posting this beauty!

What with all that's wrong with that knife, I think you ought to just pack it up and send it to me. My eyesight is not very good anymore and it will look perfect to me I'm sure.

That is a nice production knife.

Fantastic looking knife. I am really drawn to Wharncliffes and that one is my new favorite.

I have always loved Queen and all of their knives but their fit and finish as of late has been off. Five years ago when I started adding them to my collection they had very minor ff issues. My most recent purchase however, really made me re-evaluate their product. I bought one of the Burke small Barlows and it was rife with issues. The wharnclife blade has side to side play and the edge was damn near flat. I love their d2 but man that stuff is hard. I re profiled And convexed it. The handle scales have chips in them and the springs are not flush. Fit and finish aside, it is a great user. I switch between it and a case cv medium stockman. I have heard it rumored that they are going to be raising their prices. If they do I don't think I will be making anymore purchases of their product unless they improve their ff issues. That wharnclife is very nice and I would very much like to own one but at the price I have seen it listed for I don't think I will be pulling the trigger.

I love the design of that knife and have been seriously considering purchasing one. I am a little surprised about the fit and finish issues you mentioned. I have a couple of Queen Trappers, the newest being an aged honey amber stag bone, and the fit and finish on it is great ... I've always heard the S & M's was even better. I know that most Queens come butter knife sharp but that doesn't bother me because it allows me to set the bevel I want.

She's a looker, that's for sure.
Congrats!

Mine just arrived

I am very pleased

Well, show us a picture of it. It won't bother me a bit if you stick a picture of it in my thread unless of course you are thinking of showing it off in your own thread. Whatever the case, let's see it!!

Certainly looks a very nice knife indeed, but what you write about the build quality is sobering and bears out some of my experiences. I have 4 Schatts in stainless and ALL of them have issues:marked gaps, blade wobble or rough raised springs in open. Frankly, it's really put me off them. True, they all look nice but when you open them or examine them the faults are evident. I don't feel like risking another. Whereas, the carbon Schatt I own is a very fine knife with no problems(it has Queen stamps on the tang). Possibly I've been unlucky but 4 out of 4 is not a good rate by any measure.

After reading this review, I wonder even more.
