New Schrades

I know how much the mods love to get baited by people who are somewhat outspoken whilst failing to comprehend the rules of the discussion. So I won't do it this time.
Cheers all and thank you for your ongoing patience and professionalism (even though you don't get paid:mad:).

Thank you, Jason and Gary for the timely response to the mess. During the work week, I only have access to BF in the evening.

Had there been a thread about what kinds of knives each person collects, and had he posted in that thread that he only buys knives made in the US, there would not have been a problem.

It was his insistence on posting his comment in a thread devoted to knives made in China which drove the warning.

(...) F&F are not bad. Flush joints. No gaps between liners and springs. Springs have strong snap. Blades are fairly sharp. Swedged on both sides of blade, but roughly finished, as if a one-swipe on the grinder per side. Crinking is good and blades center in the brass liners when snapped shut. They walk and talk with strong halfstops. Shield (stainless or nickel) inletting is not bad for smooth shiny bone and a complicated shield shape. The three pins, two cover and one spring pin are brass and finished smooth with the bone with no pin cracks. I have no idea of steel quality, but all and all it is not bad for a cheap knife (...)

It's difficult sometimes to take a step back from ourselves and take note of what's what; it can be tough to be impartial. Thanks for taking the time and effort, Codger... well done, sir!:D

I bought a New Schrade 3OT, 5OT, and the giant 51OT. The 3OT and 5OT didn't impress me — the actions were rough, opening and closing, and the blade profile of the 5OT had a noticeable kink in the middle of the spine. Both of these were put in the Oblivion Bin, to be given away, discarded, or whatever

But the 51OT — that's a different story. I bought it because the prices of the made-in-USA ones had climbed out of reach on the big auction site, due to scarcity or trendiness or both. So it was New Schrade or Do Without.

Dang thing has a blade as big as a butter spreader! And truth to tell, it's really too big for any pocket carry. But everytime I see it, I start to laugh at the size of it. If I were into naming knives, I'd name it Muldoon. And it holds a pretty good edge, all in all. Bottom line? So far, it's been a good performer at a low, low price.

And yes, your mileage may vary.
