New Sebenza 25 with some issues

Just received a new Sebenza 25 from a well known american dealer.

Well it was rather disappointing.
First i discover the blade needs sharpening. Also there is a minor scratch on one pivot screw. Later that day i hear some rattling sound and one of the small screws for the handle is completely loose. But what bothers me the most is that the blade is off center.

Well obviously this knife has been used and disassembled by a previous unsatisfied owner who returned it to the store.

I suppose the knife will be OK after some sharpening (which i have no idea how to do) and some loctite on the screws.

But my question is regarding the off-center blade. It is not touching the side, but very close. If it stays this way it is fine, but there is not much Space for any further movement. Should i expect the blade to stay fixed in this position also after some use?

Since i live in Europe i would rather not return the knife due to shipping costs.

It is very unlikely for a Chris Reeve knife to be uncentered and dull, especially when new, so I think you should either return it or exchange it...with shipping costs belonging to the dealer, of course.

Bummer.

Regarding the offcentered blade....you may want to try adjusting the pivot, and make sure that all of the handle screws are indeed tight. The knife should have came with tools, loctite, and grease.

Even tho they are small little fixes it is a bummer it came that way. I agree that the dealer should replace at their cost. Maybe a quick email explaining what the problems are to the dealer and copy CRK's. The copy to CRK's may get the dealer attention. Best of luck, no matter how great a company is things sometime get by but, the great ones (CRK) will fix it.

The off center for a CRK is very out of the norm. If you are brave enough, find a utube video on taking a Sebenza apart and re assembly. By doing this, it will give you an indication if the knife was taken apart before you acquired it. If one of the washers is out of place or bent it will make the blade off center. If you have no sharpening skills, take it to a knife shop and they can put the edge back.
Sorry to hear about your issue

You might consider leaving feedback on the Dealer in the FeedBack section. It sounds like mainly a dealer issue more than a CRK issue, due to the previous ownership and the scratch on the pivot. Not sure of the fact, but a dealer with less that perfect inventory might have sent that knife since there was little chance of return. Agreed with the above, dealer should pay for return and make you happy. These are expensive knifes that are widely touted as near perfect.

That's too bad. Hopefully it gets resolved for you without too much hassle. It raises a question in my mind. Does CRK guarantee blade centering? Can an off center 25 be sent right back to CRK?

I don't know the dealer, but this would raise the flag of concern over the possibility of a fake - lot's of 'em out there.

Just out of curiosity what is the Date on the birth card for your 25? And I agree with my fellow members. It sounds to me like the dealer sent you a knife that was possibly returned because of the issues you have described and then sold it to you.
All the best, Dave

I agree with Birdhunter, a quick email explaining how the knife was received and how you are not satisfied and of course copy CRK.
That will definitely get the ball rolling

Good luck and sorry you received a 25 in that condition.

Take care

My Seb25 is off center as well. No problems other than that though. Great knife

You might want to urge the dealer to pay your postage for a return and replacement, and then report the results here. For $445 plus postage, you deserve a knife that is perfect in every respect.

My Seb25 is off center as well.

I would have a real hard time dealing with that, again because of the coinage involved.

I would ask to see a photo of the knife and a photo of the birth card. Because this may be a fake. It does not sound like a Sebenza.

Thanks for all info!
I am certain the knife is not a fake. It was assembled on dec. 26 according to the certificate.

I am gonna contact the dealer and return the knife. It will be interesting to see how they handle my complaint.

I would definitely contact the dealer. My Sebenza 25 came extremely dull from CRK as well which is something I was not expecting

Hopefully the dealer will handle this for you-they should. If they don't then contact CRK and explain the situation, Whatever you do not start working on the knife until the other options have been exhausted. Most likely if you did have to work on the knife you could fix the majority of your problems, but you shouldn't have to.
