New sheath for TGLB--kydex or leather?

Thanks again for the additional comments; I love the look of the black leather, it really suits this knife. I have, however--for now--been persuaded by Garth's formula... "leather for show and kydex to go"... so an inquiry is in about kydex. I hope to "go" relatively soon on a couple of trips and kydex has always served me well in the rough and tumble on the trail. But who am I kidding... a black leather sheath is looming in my future too!

Man, I just want to keep asking for more pics--you all have been great. Any thoughts on traveling with your Busse's; do you dare check them? I've done it with other large fixed, but they were nowhere near as expensive or dear to me.

Thanks again.

Beside being to "go", kydex will gives you more flexibility when it comes to mounting options. You can use the eyelets on the sheath for many type of setup. Here are some my setup which Eric Lind from Mashed Cat built for me.

TGLB with dangler loop and a small utility knife:

ASHBM with adjustable height drop loop and molle clips to mount on backpacks:

2x Randalls with dangle loop and ESSE pouch:

Eric is a great guy to work with. The quality of his sheaths and his customer service is one of the best out there.

this is going to sound absolutely insane to a knife newbie, but my "low end" busse's... of which my TGLB was one... are beaters...they are hardcore users and i don't even think of them as "expensive" anymore

my 1311 gets treated like a $10 machete... i beat that SOB until it begs for mercy...

when you buy a Busse, use the SHIT out of it... sure, they're not cheap, but they love abuse

I think buying a knife without a sheath is like buying a welder with no cart... gotta make your own:)

I have tried my hand at Kydex but not leather. I would like to get the tools to give it a try. Got pretty good at kydex.

Thank you to those who suggested me :)

Don--love the versatility... Very likely going with kydex first

I get what your saying, and I'm more of a Busse newbie than a knife newbie--I've put my Beckers through a fair amount, and now I plan to do the same to the tglb. That said, I can bear losing a bk 7 to a TSA agent with sticky fingers (of course, I'd be furious...), but to lose the Busse that way, well I'd lose my mind next... Not even due to the money, not altogether at least... Just the idea of the wait for a new one (ok, and the money... Why should I fund some creep)... Thus the travel concern.

Good eye! I really like that one on the bottom as well, a classic design. :)

TGLB and a Blackhawk, now that is the combo! I use my TGLB Mini and a Talo SB.

We are working on the wait times gents. We have knocked two weeks off of them this past week and I expect it to be around 4-5 weeks soon. Training new monkeys slows things down for a bit then really speeds up when I no longer have to watch everything they do. Busse sheaths are going to be an in stock item in the next couple of months.

I highly recommend Skystorm Leather.[/QUOTE]

This I had done by Chuddy Bear, it has earth magnets inside for a little extra security, fire starter loop, X's on back for extra mounting, and strap doesn't contact handle. It really came out awesome I'm very happy with it :thumbup:

How many zombies did you have to skin to make the ones with the stitches? Reminds me of that movie "jeepers creepers". I normally like very traditional styled, leather rigs but for some darn reason I really like those creepy looking kydex pieces.

Hard field use in multiple environments = Kydex! In terms of look, quality and price point; Dave Brown makes some of the best I've seen.

Like many , I use leather for my show pieces and kydex for my serious users--Love the look and feel of leather, but it doesn't do well transitioning extremes (-60 to 100+) trust me; been there and done that.

Everytime I see these, it reminds me of just how many things are still on my wishlist. I swear David that you have got to be the most innovative Kydex bender I have ever seen.

I say both! I have a leather sheath on order for my TGLB but I decided I just had to have one of Dave's zombie skins. I am very anxious for both of them to arrive.

OK everyone, first, let me thank you all for the recommendations. They were very helpful. Also, many thanks to the vendors that I corresponded with--you all do great work and it was difficult narrowing down my choices. In the end, I went with a kydex insert (Azwelke) for spec opts sheath I already have and a black leather dangler from Skystorm. That should cover all the "goes" and "shows"... if and when the spec opts goes to hell, I'll get a full on kydex to replace it.

So, with the orders in, all I have to do is wait... which turns out to be the hardest part.

Thank you all, once again. I'll post pics when the good arrive.
