In an older post I told about taking the logo off my Alaskan Guide 110, then deciding that the logo on the sheath had to go also:p. I ruined the sheath:mad: so I made one to take it's place:).

This is my second flap sheath and the first that I molded to fit the shape of the knife...I'm not sure that I like the way it looks, but...

...I'm liking this one much more than the one with the braiding on the flap. I'm working on a new sheath for the 116 that I rescued, it will have braiding but on the edge where I think it belongs.

Thanks for looking, Preston

Mr. Preston...
I will trade you my spankin' new Alaskan sheath for that one in the pic? That way you try again until you get it right.
Seeing the Alaskan w/o the logo has got me thinkin' again...

Thanks, Trax and Goose,

Goose, I'm thinking about doing it again anyway. I'll take the back off the one I messed up...put on a new back and then braid the edge...first, we'll see how it goes braiding the 116 sheath...let you know. Preston

PS Goose, you need more bandaids????:D

Preston - Since you are obviously an old hand with leather, let me ask...can a black Buck leather sheath be bleached and then restained brown???

I recall the guys in my old unit stripping their shoes down with lighter fluid (to remove the built-up polish) and then repolishing them [spit-shine, of course].

Can they be taken down to the point of not having any polish/stain at all??? Bare leather???

Trax...you have me mistaken with someone else...LMAO:D :D, old, yes, have dabbled with leather some.

I taught elementary art for 25 years, so had some exposure to crafts. Also in the U. S. Army, I do recall stripping our shoe polish off...but not to the point where they had no stain. It's just to get the old polish off to start anew.

I don't know about stripping the stain completely off...I think that it would be unlikely...just looking at my hands from the little staining I did:eek:.

I did clean an older sheath with actetone(I think that's lighter fluid) and did get some color off and restained it. I'll try it on another one to see how much I can get off and report back. Preston

Trax, since I was working and had the old AG sheath close by and the acetone...

I tried it out and looks like you might be able to do it. It took quite a bit of rubbing and time to get just this small area cleaned and it still has stain color. I don't know how much of the black would be left...some pigments are staining/opaque others are semi-transparent. Another factor would be what you will be restaining with. Trial and error...just like real life.:D :D Preston

Yeah, those bandaids don't stay on well when ya go swimming with your knife in sheath on your Speedo. :barf:

Yeah I'm still undecided on the logo. If I were a rich man...da da da da da da...I'd buy another one to put on the shelf. So, I guess I will keep this one on...thinking it might wear off after a few years of use.

BTW, the Alaskan sheath I have has the flap crease from where I wore it for a few days. No external wear. It's back in the box. I am using the nylon horizontal right now.

I could do without the logo on the knife blade, but I actually like the logo on the sheath.

Different strokes....

What is so bad about the logo on the sheath?? You ruined a perfectly good sheath, IMO.
