Wow, you went all out. Good taste :) What are the specs on the rifle?

I would just like to say that when i first saw this thread title i misread it as "New shooting skirts"

what's the rate of twist on the barrel? is it just 223? Those rock river NM stainless uppers are pretty hot stuff for the money, and I'm a huge ACOG fan.

I live about 10 minutes down the road for Bullseye. I try and shoot the USPSA match they hold every Sunday. Do you shoot any of the USPSA matches there?

Nope. Never done it. I haven't shot competition since I lived in Memphis a few years ago. Usually I either go up there by myself or my boss tags along and then we hit up Chepe's afterwards during the week. Sometimes I go during the afternoon on Mondays to get some alone time on the rifle lanes. Nowadays I just target shoot for poops and giggles. I sold off all my "high dollar" stuff to pay some stuff off and all I've got left is a ton of surplus rifles, my pig killer lever-action, a bunch of .22's for rainy day plinking, and a couple of handguns. The only one I could probably still compete with would be my Springfield as far as handguns go. I think my Ruger would do ok for some .22 competition as long as I stick to the "normal rifle" people and not try to mix it up with those red trigger crazies. You know who I'm talking about. Most of the time I'm just up there shooting my surplus rifles open sights. That's a lot of fun. It's especially rewarding when someone sets up in the lane next to me with a well decked out M4 complete with EOTech etc. and they stare at my target and my rifle made in 1956 with amazement. Half of the people that are getting into shooting nowadays never even tried to shoot their new hotness OS. They went straight to spending the money.

Wow...that got long quick. :D

Dylside, I don't mount a scope to a rifle until I am 100% competent with the irons-if it has them. Mosin, K-31, AR-15, FAL, HK-91, all of my rifles that have open sights I use.

That's the way to do it man. I work with another dude who just spent big ass money on a Sig556 with all the trimmings and an EOTech. His EOTech stopped working out of nowhere while we were on the lane and he just didn't know what to do.

I was like "dude, are you serious?"
He said, "what, I can't shoot it like this."

First I taught him how to shoot with his flip-ups that he didn't even realize were sights. Then, I really blew his mind when I yanked off the rear sight and shot without it.

He said, "How in the hell can you even keep a steady grouping like that." I had to explain to him that if one of your sights gets screwed up, you can fire one control shot at the target and use the distance from where you were aiming to the actual hole and figure out how to line it up and still get a decent grouping.

He said, "where did you learn how to do that?"
I said, "county fair. ...you ever try to blast out that whole star? the sights on those bb guns never work. Same with the crossbows and the balloons. One control shot, pay attention to where the shot actually goes, and adjust. Easy as pie."

That's the kind of skill you just don't pick up if you never shoot iron sights. Hell, if you get a cheap ass rifle, sometimes that shit just aint sighted in from the factory and you can't change it. You gotta adjust and work with what ya got. If you've got a gun that'll shoot straight, doesn't matter where the sights are, you can make do.

I can not remember right off of the top of my head what the twist is but I will take a look and post it back on here. The upper is great. It is a little heavy for free hand shooting but you get use to it. After I bought my first ACOG about a year ago I had to sell it to pay for my open gun. I then picked up Trijicon as a sponsor and am starting to us ACOGS again.

I try to shoot at least once a week at the range but I do not get a chance to get up there as much as I would like to. I shoot pistols there more than anything just because I can not get much 3 gun practice shooting at 25 yards :p. I tend to run into a good bit of people that buy a AR and try to put every possible thing they can on the rifle to make it look cool. We run into a few of those types that just buy the best the can after they shoot 2 or 3 USPSA matches. They will start off with a $500 Glock and then the next match you seen them at they will have a $2500 limited gun.

hehe, small world as i go to bullseye every now and then. I have some good friends who live not too far from there. One of them shoots in the glock matches but is trying to get me to start shooting in the 22lr matches they are thinking about starting up.

I shot uspsa matches for 23 years. first classification was B using a single stack 45. my uspsa # is only 4 numbers long!! LOL:D
