new shop knife and dayhike EDC

Love the handle material on that. Also the sheath setup -- I need a pen everyday (one of the permanent marker pens, actually) and a flashlight at work. Would be pretty handy to have them both on a knife sheath.

I mean, it's not like I chop down 7 inch frozen trees with a knife ---- unlike some people I know:

I know, abuse of a knife, I tell you. :D

A little off topic but I just got back from a hike with Tony and got to play with your new Leuku. The grind and edge are awesome!!! The handle, nice and comfy. What a cool knife Christof. It reminds me of a traditional tanto. I'll put up some pics in my own thread shortly.

More pictures as requested, including the obligatory throwing shots.

One thing I do with knives a lot is mess with leather. A knife sharp enough for controlled skiving cuts and push cutting patterns - and making an even bevel- is pretty sharp.

now what sounds good to me, would be that knife, in a kit that includes my Leatherman Tool, and my LED MiniMag. :D

I like the sheath the best, that's sick. The first guy to design an in-pocket retention system for a small knife sheath will make alot of money, and I think this is the best as far as pocket organization as I've seen.

How's the newer shallow angled scandivex grind compare with your old grind in use ?

3: no one has offered a side by side comparison. rotte. tony. rotte. tony......

Well I just got the new version a day ago, so I can not get too in depth. But be sure that I will do a full review after I have given it alot of use.

I will say that I notice alot more bite and cutting/slicing ability in this newer convex scandi. I had it out a lil today and did some basic stuff with it. It cuts as well as a traditional scandi like the Skookum. I also feel it may have a more durable edge; time will tell...

But I am sure Marcelo was tired o me saying how great it was today:o (I think he was just jealous)

*shrug* Hard for me to tell for 3 reasons-

1: BOTH my other shop knives have been not my regular convex edge grind. The small maple one is very close to the new higher, flatter, scandivex and I have no issues with it at all

2: My task set is brutal, but different from what I do with my leuku pattern bushcrafter in the field. different materials and stresses. Yes, I AM guilty of scraping epoxy off of silicon bronze with my shop knife. and other stupid things including scribing CRS for cutting. I say I'm "testing" so I can get away with it.

The Bush Beater sets a standard for heavy-bladed choppers, IMO.... BTW, that new rig is awesome.

That cool. Tell more about that little pry bar.

The pry bar is called a 'widgy bar' on the countycomm website. I'm not deal spotting, and I'm sure there are some other sources, but I like countycomm's service and their website is SO EFFING HARD TO NAVIGATE that I'll just post links.

the full size widgy bar, like I carry:

The micro and pico sizes, which I don't carry as I don't personally need to reduce my gear footprint quite that much. And I have a p38 on my keychain anyway:

I'm honestly considering getting a few of the micro size ones to see how they do with some tasks as they would fit a bit more easily in almost ANY horizontal strap on one fo the sheaths.

They also make a breacher bar, which is a bit bigger, but I prefer a smallish gorilla bar in that size range.

Here's the basic thought process:

Knife not prybar
Real world involves prying
Carry prybar.

The pocket widgy (he. hehe.) is pretty durable and just barely big enough to be really useful. I've used it on beer bottles, the shipping crats for my mini mill last night, disassembling old furniture and projects that were nailed or glued together, opening paint and oil cans, cleaning metal as a scraper, and removing small nails. I've used it as a start to get a large hammer claw under nail heads, too.

I think the most amusing was that I used my old one as a shim for a day under a tool on a temporary mount.

Man I'm really jonesing for a setup like that now. I tried ordering the widgy but I'm not going to pay almost 9 bucks in shipping for a 5 dollar item. Anyone want to piggy back one on their next order? LOL

well, once you add a spare, and a half dozen $1.40 led lights, and 3 or 4 of the $2 space blankets. and toothbrushes....

If no one replies, I'll add another one to my next order.

If I was totally lame I'd say you could have one for $260 with a free bolo thrown in :D :D :D :D

I can dig it!

Looks like the Koyote Steel and Shadetree burlap combo is a winner!

They toolkit sheath looks super handy, great work!
