Some of you know I have been working out of an 8x8 building for quite a while. I have been having to pull my lawnmower out just to get in and work and anytime I have leatherwork or need to glue up handles I have to clean up most of the mess from my other work just to start. Well I have decided as an investment to my house and my shop to get an 12 x 20 barnstyle building. I will have alot of simple storage room up top and can put as many shelves as I wish to put everything out of the way.
It will take me a while to get it set up like I like it but well worth it. Maybe I can speed up my process with the added room?
I am a lucky guy!!!

If ya need help some weekend just give me a call and let me know!! I will drive up and help ya organize and build shelves for the day!!

good luck! The bigger shop you have the more stuff you get to fill it up!!

You are too cool Alan ;)
I'll take it one step at a time. HEll in 6 months I may actually have it wired to the breaker box :D

You are a lucky guy. ;) I'm working out of my basement in an area maybe a little bigger then yours. I'm hoping next year to get the same size building. Money is an issue in my case, but you never know what can develop. good luck getting it set up.

The best way to figure out how big a shop you need is triple the estimate. I only doubled mine and I need more room. Mine is 28' x 28'.

I hear you Tom. Damn nice size! Well, the area in my backyard will hold a 12 x 20 and thats with my 8 x 8 off to the side as well. Hope to be using both but the one for a shop and the upper lofts and the 8 x8 for storage. MAybe in 10 more years I'll need an 28 x 28 :D

That's great news Brian. Now you can start building those BIG Trailguides.....hint,hint :) Congrats!

I do need to start those huh? :D Seems like I just cant get cought up but I will my man! :D

You new guys are really starting to piss me off .........New grinders, power hammers, new workspace..............whew. By the way Brian. I'm going to send you a template for you to play with. I've kinda drifted awy from the practcal to the fanciful so maybe you can put it to use. Be my luck they will sell like hotcakes and I'll have to hear about your new milling machine cnc lathe ect . etc. :)

Just messin' with ya-like you need more pressure on you right now. GOODE things come to those who wait! :-)

You are too much Mark. Your the brother I never wanted :D :p :D but am lucky to call my very own...he he.
Email me and I'll get you my address.....We can trade something I am sure...

I keep expanding my shop and within two years it seems that I out grow it. My cold shop is in half of my cellar, soon to be all. The hot shop has tripled in two years.
In other words think big!!!! :D

Brian, If you can double the size. You won't regret it. Still beats the heck out of a 8 X 8 but it won't take you long to fill it up if you go with the size you said.

I wish I could double it but I cant. Pocket book and space ;(
I will keep the 8 x 8 so Thats a backup anyways

hahaha space,, a never ending quest to a means to no end hahaha
I started with a 10x12
then added a
28' x 32' 2 story gambrel
then added 34' x 36' and I still can't move...
more is nice but if you keep stock piling junk it don't help :( :)
of course once I get all the years worth of junk out from years of small engine work I'll have space again :D for a while

Brian, I am so happy for you. Seeing the spark you have for knifemaking, and watching it burst from a fever into a flame over this past year or so has been a real treat for old guys like me. I sure wish I was down there to help you wire in some good power for that new shop, bro.

Attention mods: WE NEED a "thumbs-up" smilie!

You guys are the best! This summer I'll bury a 110 and a 220 wire to hook that sucker to the house power. Baby steps :D

First I need a couple benchtops :D :D

Brian
220 household power is 2 legs of 110

run the 220 wire
into your 220 box and you will have both 220 and 110 .

where as you don't know this :( ;) ,, get an electrician to hook it up for you. :D
