New Shop on the way

I have been having to pull my lawnmower out just to get in and work and anytime I have leatherwork or need to glue up handles I have to clean up most of the mess from my other work just to start.

Brian:

What? Move out of a luxurious 8X8?  I thought EVERY knifemaker had to shuffle stuff around and clean up between operations. :D Are you telling me that there are actually people that have enough room and don't have to do this?

Since my wife makes me do most of my work in the bathroom linen closet using candlelight and rusty files, I am used to having to move toilet tissue and the clothes hamper before I can even start.

Congratulations...........Your friend Robert

Any body have a decent floor layout for a 12 x 20?
I was thinking of making 24" countertops along the 2 opposite 12' walls. One as a dirty work area and one as a semi clean space. That way I can put a folding 8' table up for misc work and be able to put big things like a table saw (to come one of these days), my HB saw, O/A torches, and suff along 1/2 of the 20" wall opposite the door.

Of course shelving for storing all I am not using and shelving below the 2 12' counter tops as well.

Any hints woild be apreciated....

BEfore the 8 x 8 I was working on a piece of plywood behind out house :D

Robert.....you'll get a place one of these days Robert. Then you will be head over hillls my friend :D

Trying to keep my floor where I can get larger items in when I get them....
a couple of items didnt show up on my mac. The KMG is between the drill press and metal bandsaw. The metal bandsaw may fit under the counter and I can hang belts againts the wall where the bandsaw is sitting in the drawing....

congrats, beleive me I know where your coming from. I just renovated a 20'x20' block barn that used to be a milk room on a dairy farm. still haven't got moved in, but love the extra space.

My post Xmas project is a 14X24 extension of my work area. The present grinding shop is 8X8 with one wall hinged to open up the side. The hinged wall is all hanging storage,as well as being the door..The equipment is mounted around the walls on 24" counters, leaving me a 4X6 area to stand in.It makes all the tools available at one time. The forge area is covered by a 10X20 canopy tent.I am building out to enclose all of the forge area. All wood working is done in the wood shop out back.It is 16X20.No fire allowed in the wood shop, and as little wood dust as possible in the metal shop.Sparks and saw dust don't mix well.
