New Shop Progressing, Finally...

This morning Dink and I and Aubrey will be working at the new facility. Weĺl be building out some storage and shelving. Aubrey will finish up the cubes. Ken and crew will be at the old shop packing up.

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFF everything goes right this week with inspections then next weekend we will move function. After that it will be down to moving the leftovers and cleaning up.

Pray for us that the inspections go right. Those guys are tough.

I've been in the construction industry for 14 years, whatever you do don't tick off the inspectors. Hopefully every thing goes right.

Luckily, I've had David to help me with that stuff. He is much more patient than I am.

This is a view into the middle room. We put in this set of cabinets and a 1.5" thick plywood top. Iĺl edge band the top with curly maple. This is where we will have the surface plates until I get the bigger one. Then the smaller surface plates will go around the shop to be used where marking is needed.

Beneath this shelf, which is across from where the grinders will be, is where used belts will be stored. Itĺl get edge banded with curly maple to stiffen it up as well. New belts will be stored above this on a hinged spring loaded sheet of plywood. When you want a new belt, you will pull a rope, the plywood will swing down, and the belts will hang on hook shaped conglomerations of pipe and will pivot out toward you. Right now all we have ready is the shelf...

This is a view in to the clean room/office area. Im standing against the roll up door, which will normally stay closed. On the wall to my left will be the glueup area/benches, and shipping area/benches. There will be a sturdy shelf, like the one at the grinding stations, higher up on the wall to store boxes. That shelf will be from the rollup door to the interior door. Ill mount a florescent fixture on the bottom of the shelf. The majority of folks desks will go in the center of the main space there in front of the cubes. Along the wall opposite the rollup door are the cubes. We got 3 cubes for free that were abandonned at one of my wifes buildings. The cubes will house sheathmaking, marking stations, and photography. Ken and David will be in the front office area, currently the only air conditioned space, btw. Dylan and I are way in the back in the negative space created by the bathroom. There is a small window there as well. You can see the kitchenette, and opposite the fridge is a shop sink which we will use as our kitchen sink. (at the current shop we only have one bathroom sink.

Tomorrow I plan to continue cleaning, and setting up the office area. Im going to build the shelf that is going to store the boxes. Then if everything goes right with the inspectors, next weekend we move function and the following weekend, the guild shows up for the quarterly meeting.

FYI, if you can make the guild meeting on the 15th of August, youŕe invited! Itĺl be at the new shop.

Last weekend we moved non essential stuff. (A lot of it, at least.) Monday morning we passed the plumbing inspection and Thursday the final inspection is scheduled to happen. If that happens we can apply for the business license and start functional moving in on Friday morning. Friday evening is the GA Knifemakers Guild social, so we have plenty of ours to get it ready. Right. Anyway, pray for us pass the inspection.

I was able to snap a few pics before Allen started hollering for me to get to work
Basically what you are looking at is the area the KMGs will be.
One side will be designated for steel and the other is for handle material. Both sides will have its own grizzly dust collection system

Looking nice! I have some pretty heavy steel legged workbenches that I'd offer as a donation, but I feel that the freight cost wouldn't be worth it for you guys.

And it's official - we're in! All permits passed, business license soon to be in hand!

Congratulations to the crew! That's amazing news - can't wait to see the full shop up and running.

The old office is getting empty

The walls are getting bare in the shop and the movers are supposed to arrive at 10 for the heavy stuff
