New Shop

My buddy Fairly on his way to my house to help level out the spot where the new shop is going. I finally found a place that sells railroad ties to set it on.

Here is a google map aerial shot of where the shop is going. The yellow is the roof section I'm building off the side of it.

Edit: I didn't realize the image shows the huge oak tree I lost during hurricane Matthew, but my tarp shop/shed made it..

Ready for delivery tomorrow.

Hope it all turns out good for you.
When I have containers moved, At best they slide it off the back of their trailer to land on dunnage, but precise dropping off is not possible. Always I have to lift & shift to set to precisely.
Also, be sure they know which end the doors face the truck unless they can drive up at either direction.

I allways wondered about using containers for shops. Hope it works out good for you. Are those bricks under the RR ties going to support all the weight. Only reasion I wonder is becaus if the native vegetation under those bricks decomposes then thy will sink.

Yes they are blocks. Only vegetation under them is rock hard Carolina dirt.

So much for waiting till I got the electrical run, lighting up and benches built. Moving everything today that I don't want getting wet. The old shop roof is leaking like it doesn't have a roof, so moving everything that I don't want wet and I don't feel like investing in another tarp till I get the conex box ready. Looks like I won't be getting any knife making work done for at least a month or two. Just need to move 2 grinders, attachments, 2 bandsaws and my tool box. Everything else is moved out that matters.

My last shop leaked like that. Old tin roof and the metal was lifted and the nails pulled up from all the wind. It would rain and we would run and grab a stack of tupperware we kept in the shop for this very reason.

Go almost everything moved over. Was sick most of last week so I haven't been able to build any of the new work benches or run any wiring, but my stuff is out of the weather.

Was a lot easier getting some of the heavy stuff loaded than I anticipated. Just so happens that one of the door lock lugs makes a good place to hang a chain hoist from a shackle.

Got an 18' camper from a hunting buddy of mine a year or so ago. He used it to store hunting supplies and corn in at his hunting club. Some rats got in it and tore it all to crap and crapped all in it for a few years.

Gutting it out to the framing and going to build some shelves in it to store all of my crap I don't want to clutter up the new shop with. Need to fix the 2 roof vent covers and the stove vent, other than that no leaks so it should make a good storage building. Nice twin axle frame under it.

Lucky you!
The joy of cleaning up rat pooped camper.
My 18' Airstream gardenshed suffered the same fate.
Alot of powerwashing and rinse with bleach. Its inside still aromatic on a hot summer day.

Yup, lots of poop. Thankfully the air conditioner is still good so I just hot wired it with a large extension cord to a 20a outlet from the old shop. Making work today less brutal. It's only 99* and about 75% humidity out right now.

Hopefully I'll get the rank smell out since I'm taking it down to the framing and they didn't get in the walls much. Taking out the lenolium and going to get put a whole new layer plywood on the floor over the old one since there are a few holes and soft spots from leaking for a while. I don't think I'll bother replacing the wall covering, just going to store pluming and electrical supplies, spare engine and mowers parts, weed eaters and such.

Since the ac works I may take it off and cap the roof and use it on my conex box. Going to check the gas furnace as well as I may be able to use it on the conex as well. Even though I'm at twice the square footage they may work well enough to save me some money.

Got a lot of work done this weekend building new work benches and getting tools mounted. Next phase will be running power to it and doing the electrical work. there is no commentary in the video, most everyone will know what they're looking at, plus it would have been hard to talk over the fans running.

I need to get my big pedestal fan back from my father in-law's house cause dang it is HOT....

crane

This seems like a nice feature

I've thought about this, especially after the simple life guy did it.

I like the idea of fold down awnings that cover the windows for security.

I'd weld in windows ledge frames like he did, for light, air and air conditioning.
I think the AC would be best in the short wall.

I'd have to frame in studs and interior walls - spray foamed.
That would consume some width.

WE have run into critters that like to live under sheds, skunks, coons and such.

I'm going to build a jib like that, weld a door and some windows in. Not sure about awnings but bars on the outside will be welded on over the windows.

Was like I was watching an epasode of "house hunters, tiny house edition". Looking good.

Looking Good...I kept looking for the Refreshment FRIDGE???

I'm not keen on bars over windows...A friend had security bars over his residence windows and two children were lost in a fire there was no way to release the bar frame.

LOL, Thanks JT.

I haven't moved the refreshments in yet as they wouldn't be very refreshing without electricity going to the fridge. Still need to run the power line and get a panel and run the wiring. Currently just have a small cord run so I can power a light, a couple fans and a couple small tools for construction. I'd have the electrical started, but hunting season is coming soon and I needed a new rifle so I just ordered the one I been wanting Saturday and a new scope. Had to sell all of mine of a few years back during a hard financial time and had been borrowing one from a friend. He was holding it for another friend who had been going through a nasty divorce and came to get it now that was over. I'm not sitting this year out again so it took priority over running power for the next couple weeks. It will be easier to run the outlets now that I actually know where everything is going, since I've made a few changes to the plans now that I actually have equipment in the shop. Figuring I'll be back up and running by September or October, time for it to start cooling down some.

The windows will be more for allowing natural light in. If it were a dwelling and not a shop I wouldn't put bars on them, but I want to protect my investment best I can, but i'm actually contemplating not installing any at all now that I'm getting everything set up.
