New size avatars are cool!!!!

He wrote a whole series about a fictional character named Gabriel DuPre. There's about seven titles in that series. I discovered one of them about a year ago or so and ended up reading them all.

They're set in current times in Eastern Montana and delve into modern western issues with a great perspective.

If you have the opportunity, give him a read and let me know what you think.

And he skewers new-agers with deadly precision every chance he gets. ;)

I already done told you on the forum about Peter Bowen half a year or so back. Can't decide if his medicine man or Yvsa has the worse sense of humor.

Forget about reading the books, Yvsa, I wouldn't want you getting any new ideas to use on us. :D

Rusty, Nice avatar:) I remember that belt buckle but I'll have to re-read the thread for the details.

Rusty my bro the last year has been absolute pure hell for me and not one I would wish to live through again, the memory is just now starting to come back a little bit, but it's one helluva an improvement over what it was.
I wish I had of blessed that buckle for you when you were here, but I was so damned sick over that time I can hardly recall you being here although I know you were, let alone doing any work like that.
All of my energy was spent on surviving either long enough to get better or be able to walk West while still in some semblance of my right mind.

From all appearances I'm getting better on a daily basis, Barb even says my Dunlap disease is less apparent and has went from a 8:50 x 20" to a 7:60 X 16".
I'm looking forward to going to the gym tomorrow to kick some more ass!!!!
Can't wait until I get down to a 6:50 X 13"!!!!!:D
That's a 32" - 33" waist for all y'all that don't know what Dunlap Disease is.:p  ;)

Sorry I wasn't here for it, Rusty! Old Benetsee reminds me of Karma itself.

You are indeed welcome. Too bad you can't see the intricate beadwork like in the larger photograph, but I did my best...:)

I don't have the programs to download my own pictures, or a scanner. All these great pics are starting to make me want one too.

Hi, Yvsa:

About the sweat, the Lakota Sioux here in Indiana have a ceremony with smoke and sweat called inipi (phonetically, that's how it sounds). Same thing as Chreokee Sweat?

Beoram:

Thanks for the link to the font! Awesome stuff.

Very similar Keith and you got the spelling absolutely correct.:)

The Scythians (dominant in the lower Russian Steppes 700-300 B.C.E.) had a sweat/sauna ritual, also tied to 'the womb of the earth mother' symbolism. They'd throw herbs on the fire, usually hemp, and inhale the smoke. They'd howl madly (a greek chronicler wrote) and then jump outside into icy water or snow.

The Scandinavians still use saunas and steam for physical cleaning. In the viking age, They hop in the sauna, scrub against the skin with fir boughs, and then jump outside into a snow bank. Very good for the skin, metabolism, and general well-being.

As a rule, Viking age peoples in Scandinavia were much cleaner and appearance-conscious than the English or Eastern Europeans, where baths were the norm, and all used the same water. Were talking the common person here, as royals of all countries were generally cleaner than the working class.

So many parallels, so little time...

I've actually tried something very similar. It wasn't something I would call "fun". ;) I guess I felt cleansed - but only because my brain suddenly stopped working...:D:D
