New SMF with vertical blade play?

I picked up two SMFs at blade, and the one that has been in my pocket (DGG) has developed some vertical blade play. If I shake the knife I can hear and feel the blade moving up and down. But if I manually push the lock bar in further this play disappears.

So, what should I do? Will it go away or not?

I did have a SMF. They do need a break in. Also, the force it was opened with made a difference. Open it with force, not like you would open a Sebenza. I used a slight wrist flick and if would lock solid. If I did it softly it would rattle.

I doubt it will go away. I had the same problem with an SnG, it only got worse. I am sure Strider will fix the problem for you if you send it in.

Give it a few more days to break in and see if it goes away, if not send it in.

They do have a break in period, work with it some.

I'll do that. The lock bar doesn't seem to even be engaging the blade hardly at all. If I tap it with my fingernail it "buzzes" like anything thin made of metal does. When I push the lock bar in then the blade and the buzz disappear.

It's almost like if it would wear more then maybe it would engage more? Anyway, if it doesn't go away, what are the turn around times like for strider?

For simple things like that they are very fast. :)

I would go ahead and send it in if that is what it's doing, I doubt it will get better.

Exactly what it the process of getting one serviced?

I've been calling them all day and I get no answer. Can't leave a voicemail because the mailbox is full.

As much as I love my Strider this is one area where they really need to improve. Ease of contact and customer responses

They don't answer the phone and rarely reply to email. I've sent in 2 Strider knives without any contact and they fixed it and sent it back. They'll just put in a bigger stop pin and that should fix the blade play. Include $16 for return shipping.

Send it in with Signature confirmation and a note explaining in brutally gory detail what you want done to the knife and what you do not want done. It's always better to err on the side of caution.

It could also be that the lock bar doesn't have enough tension and is too week to fully engage. I had a similar problem with knife from another maker, the blade would rock up and down. I was going to send it back, but I disassembled the knife and ( carefully) bent the lock toward the open position. I put a bit more tension on the lock bar and it now locks up solid. I hate sending stuff back , I'm impatient.

Wow, I know Striders have a coolness factor of 10 but I wont reward a company who wont return calls or reply to emails when it comes to CS.

Look on the blade are where the lock mates. If its dirty clean it with alcohol. Fairly common gauling when new. Will cause lock jump.

You could also email Josh directly at Strider.

Thank y'all very much. Looks like I'll just send it in with a note and money for return shipping.

I'll email Josh and give them a heads up. Thanks again, I was freaking out thinking I had no way of getting it fixed!

They are just different, they do answer emails, that and PM's over on the greeen forum.

Hope you get the problem fixed ASAP and are happy with the SMF (nice knife!) once you get it back. Does Strider not pay for the shipping either up or back on a new knife repair?
Best of luck!
