New spike hawk

I'm looking to try my hand at making a hawk. Looks like these are easiest to start with. How do they last for chopping? Did you use pins to attach the head? Looks a bit to me like you cut a slit about 5 inches down from the top, slid the head down snugly, attached it with pins, then put a piece of wood above the head, which you attached in a similar way. Maybe with some glue?

Hi there dayglo. I build shoulders into the head so it won't move forward or backward. I do cut the slot and then put a piece in that keys into the overlapping shoulder the pin and epoxy the head and the piece of wood that fills the slot. I cut down two Poplars with this one, no problem.

Beautiful as always brother. I'm glad to see you post. My map case has seen a lot of action and use, it's built like a tank.
