just thought i'd let you'll know that i picked up a new spydie endura this weekend. i had been carrying my old one for a while, but i bought the new one as a backup carry to my benchmade 710 axis lock. well, it has become at least equal in terms of carry time to my axis lock. i don't know why i love the endura so much, but i can't seem to put it down! imagine - i'm carrying a $60 knife instead of a $170 knife! anyone else do this?

Same thing except I end up carrying the Delica98. So light that you hardly know it is there. Ironic how I spent hundreds of dollars on knives to end up using this $50 dollar knife daily. Oh well.

Some have wondered why it is, with $500 wonder knives in their pocket, they reach for a Spyderco Delica or Endura, the reason..... performance....

I gave all my knives the pickle test, slicing pickles for my famous "spicy tuna samiches" my Spyderco Delica won out, even over a similarly thick convex ground knife.

Before my Delica 98, my BM M2 AFCK was the knife I liked having in my pocket most, after, well....

Now I am drooling over my new Native and waiting for my Calypso Jr to wing it's way here. Mr UPSman, bring me a knife, make it the best knife I've ever seen....

An Endura ia down the road, just a short stretch....

You Spyderco knife nuts just make me smile.

Oh, wait... I think I'm one too! Great value - good steel at a good price does it for me.

Hey marco,

I too carry my old endura sometimes when I go jogging or in-line skating, or during any exercise that may result in the knife sliding out of pocket and finding out that it's gone 100 yards later.

The longer I'm in this game the less enthusiastic I'm getting about the expensive knives and the more I like the affordable ones. I put Spyderco and Cold Steel on the top of my list. I'm even starting to like <gasp> serrations!

I think I bought my last >$200 knife. I can get about 4 or 5 good Spydercos for that price.

I've carried an old beatup Delica for years s a weekend do everything knife. It cuts cardboard, palm tree branches, sprinkler pipe and when on the boat anything on or under the ocean. It gets no special attention except a quick wipe of WD40 to take any gunk off the blade and give it a little rust protection.

If all I had was my Delica, small Sebenza and Buck 110, I'd be a happy knife guy!

I Have more expensive knives (Benchmade M2 AFCK, and Stryker, to name a couple), and I tend to carry the Endura more often than the other two put together. There's something about the way the clip holds the edge of my pocket ('98 Endura)--it seems to wear out my pants less than the AFCK. I think it's because the AFCK has a sharper corner. Also, I can get my hand in and out of the pocket (when reaching for my keys) easier with the Endura, due to the flatter handle and smoother, more rounded edges and corners. Also, I know the Endura will stay closed until I want it open. For this reason, I feel confident sleeping with the Endura clipped to the waistband of the athletic shorts I wear to bed. (Yes, I sleep with my Endura. You never know when you might have to get up in the middle of the night to make a sandwich

.)

There are many reasons for me to carry the Endura instead of my "better" knives. Perhaps there is a "reverse pretentiousness" at work here. I am proud of the fact that, even with all the knowledge at my disposal, and being a discriminating shopper, I still prefer to carry a lowly Endura.

Never carry a knife shorter than your schnoz.

I am waiting on delivery of a plain edge Endura right now. I've had the serrated version, (plastic clip) for some time and I'm sure if it wasn't for the serrations it would be my daily carry.

So I'm not the only one who feels this way! My favorite knives are below (usually well below) $100. My most expensive is an AFCK. The one-handers I use most are from Spyderco, Cold Steel, CRKT, and the Benchmades that are less expensive and lightweight. And it seems easy to develop a "bond" with many of the Spydies, esp. my Delica(s) or Calypso Jr. I also have the AUS-8 Endura, 50/50, which I don't always carry or use as much. So we don't necessarily need to murder our wallets to be knife knuts!

I hear my music playing here. I love finding a quality knife at a bargain price. There's just nothing like an affordable knife with good steel which doesn't empty my wallet. After all, I am the knife nut on a budget!

There really are some great knives well under $100 and quite a few under $50. This is a recurring theme on the forums. Those companies like Spyderco, Cold Steel, CRKT, and others who fill this working man's affordable knife category will always be on my list of favorite knife companies. It just doesn't make any sense to buy an expensive knife for daily use when a much less expensive knife can be purchased which can do the job just as well.

I will buy some of the more expensive knives, but they will just never be in the same category for me!

Hey guys, PLEASE do not offend a loyal user of the Endura for over 8 years (!!) by stating that you own BETTER knives than the Endura! There are more COSTLY knives, but no BETTER ones! There is NO better knife from another manufacturer if you compare on a basis of steel quality, workmanship, price and plain old practical design baselines. One can possibly bring other Spyderco knives into this equation, but do not even TRY to convince me of knives from other manufacturers! (BTW, I am waiting for my BRAND NEW MILITARY right now! - yet another Military man in the making!)

Heyns:

My point exactly. I put "better" in quotation marks to indicate that I was using the term ironically. Actually, my M2 AFCK is better than my Endura in some respects, but It's the total package that matters when deciding what I'll carry on a given day. Having said that, I'll undermine my own argument and confess to you all that today I am carrying the AFCK instead of the Endura. Forgive me. I'm a bit promiscuous when it comes to knives, but I still love my Endura.

My reply was mostly to point out that despite the fact I own several other knives from other companies, I always come back to Spyderco. It says something about the Spyderco quality and performance, perhaps moreso than if I were to carry only my one Spydie knife and call it THE best. The fact is, Spyderco knives in general have better edge geometry and cutting performance, in my experience, than many so-called "top end" knives. The Endura is an excellent knife...I have an older version...recently played with a '98 version. Dang it! Now I'm thinking I'll probably have to get one of these, too!
If I get a plainedge version, I'm sure I'll carry it a lot...certainly more than I do my 50/50 version. Jim

My 2~~

With all the knives at my disposal...guess what? yep..Delica, Zytel handle....

As much as I love the new Endura and Delica, I hated the old ones. The damned plastic clips kept bending and I have lost count of how many I lost before I gave up on them. As soon as I saw the new ones with real metal clips, I could not wait to buy them and I am very pleased, nearly ecstatic.

We can fix those clips, you know...don't give up on a broken Spydie!

Danelle, I have been reading the posts on this forums since it opened and I know that y'all will make good if you can, but I gave up on the damned plastic clips when I had lost the whatever number knife (4-5). I just stopped replacing them. You can figure that I liked the rest of the knife if I bought 4-5 of them before I gave up. I now have, among other Spydies, Endura98 and Delica98 models which I carry all of the time. The Delica is for going into DC where there is a 3" limit, and the Endura is for the rest of the time. What has me and most others drooling is the Military. I am saving my pennies.

DOH! There's a 3 inch limit in DC?! As in District of Columbia? As in the home of the worlds best known...nevermind. That DC?! I didn't know that.
