Finally got my hands on the new Military 2. Compression lock, tip up carry, S30v steel. Typical Spyderco fit and finish, meaning excellent. Nothing revolutionary here, just a long past due update to the classic Millie. Anyone manage to get their hands on one? What are your impressions?

Seen here with another recent acquisition, the PM2 serrated

I snagged a Military 2 through their OpFocus program this afternoon. I saw it back in stock on their website this morning, but I had checkout issues. It finally went through this afternoon. I like the Compression Lock in other stuff, excited to try it in a larger size. I wear XL - XXL gloves, so I like larger knives to fit my hands. Hopefully I will have it in a few days. I have been good this year and hadn't used that discount program much, but the Millie 2 was on my list to try.

If you have XL hands like I do, you will love this knife. I can make any of my Spydercos work (from the Dragonfly to the Police) but this one feels just right

S30v was an interesting choice for the military 2, would have expected S45VN
I concur. I was more excited about finally having a tip up carry option than the comp lock, which is a bonus.

I may buy one down the road in something other than S30V. CTS-XHP, Magnacut, maybe S90V.

I got mine a few days ago and love it. PM2 has been my favorite folder ever, but this one may take that spot. I may be in the minority, but I actually really like S30 and it works great for me. For a folder I couldn’t ask for a better design or steel.

You know what I’d really like to see? A Military 2 with a tanto blade like they did the PM2 in. The thin tip on the PM2 and Military has always worried me slightly. A few days ago, I was at a friend’s house and she asked me to open a bag of dog food. The material was very heavy duty, almost like cardboard. Do I pierce the bag with the tip of the Military 2? Will it hold up? It did fine but there is always a nagging doubt. With a tanto blade, no such doubts.

Oh, and S30v is perfectly fine for me as well.

I don’t think you’re in the minority. I love their S30V also, I’ve had a PM2 in that steel for years, and it acts more like 20CV. Excellent edge retention IMO, Spyderco has their heat treats down perfect
