New Spyderco Military 2

I'm not a Millie-lover; however, I bought one of these and like it more than the Millie 1. To me there is really nothing not to like about the redesign, but for a big folder, it's just not ideal for me personally - I prefer the Caribbean or even the Shaman, and the PM2 is a perfect size for that blade shape. Just my opinion - it's all personal tastes and personal usage.

DA170 DA170 I had no idea RC Bladworks was already doing Military 2 scales, now I need some! I can't decide whether to go for regular or skinny though.

I had a 1, and loved it. It was just a bit large for me at the time. I'm seriously considering a 2. Those scales are great, (I wonder how the skinny fits) and the clip flexibility and compression lock are two 🍒 cherries on a sundae.

Thanks to DA170 DA170 I’ve now got a Military 2 rocking some RC Bladeworks “skinny” micarta scales! What an awesome knife in every way. This may sound a bit weird, but I think the Military has a certain knife “essence” that is lost in the PM2 (and don’t get me started on the Para 3!).

I carried a Military 1 for several years, recently replaced it with a PM 2 Wharncliffe from Cutlery Shoppe. I'm waiting for Cutlery Shoppe to get the M2 in their exclusive orange.

I might get a classic Military at some point, if I decide I need a pocket sword, but not with a compression lock. I prefer a liner lock. I don't like how the compression lock pings against the palm when opening. Sold my Kapara because of it.

Im waiting for the digicam one to be out thats the one i need. Id love to see a military with a sabre ground blade kind of like the police model; id be all over that one...

If a cutlery shoppe version comes out in CTS-XHP I might get one, I love XHP.

Haha this 1st regular ones barely out and we all want our versions of it !We are like a pack of wolves. We are the same gang that brought the Kershaw forums to its knees....

To be honest, I'd want the XHP blade to be cerakoted rainbow colors, ti handles with an engraved and anodized pink unicorn.

Hmmm. I admire the ingenuity of Spyderco's Compression Lock (PM2) but I find the traditional liner lock on my Military in S110V easier to use.

I'll stick with my framelock Millies 😃

Right. While I have no real complaints about the compression lock, muscle memory favors liner-lock/frame-lock. Honestly, I made my old Millie almost perfect...but rear pocket carry led me to stop carrying it after an unfortunate escape attempt (blade opened, cut pocket, knife almost lost). I still have it; but it hasn't seen a pocket in years

, I was at a friend’s house and she asked me to open a bag of dog food. The material was very heavy duty, almost like cardboard. Do I pierce the bag with the tip of the Military 2? Will it hold up?
Yes. :)

The only time I've snapped a portion of the tip off a Spyderco Military was when I was squaring off the corners in the bottom of a rectangular notch in Hawthorne wood for a project I was working on. Some prying/torque was involved. Should probably have been using the proper tool for the job, but I have have spent all my money on knives over the years rather than proper tools. :D

The job was pretty much done before the tip snapped, so all was good.

The Military is supposed to be a 4 inch blade, and the blade ended up being exactly 4 inches long after I put a new tip on it. Glad Spyderco gave me some sacrificial blade length on this one. ;)

Yesterday I went to my local knife shop and was able to put hands on the M2 and compare it directly with the Millie that was in my pocket. Full intent was to buy one.

First impression of the M2 is NICE! I do like the small upgrades to the handle but they are so subtle that when your hand is not in the new choil the feel is all military. The change to the choil is a little more noticable and feels like the PM2 choil. When choked up it feels like a PM2 with a military blade. Its super smooth to open and has that “drop-shutty” close everyone loves about the compression lock.

The comp lock… such a great lock…

…for anyone else. I am a lefty/ambi. I can use the military liner lock with either hand. The generous cut out allows me to easily push or pull the liner with either thumb. My standard carry is the lefty military, but I frequently carry righty sprint versions.

The comp lock on the M2 has a bigger cut out and a bigger tab than the PM2. I was so hoping that it would work for me. In my right hand its awesome. In my left hand its very awkward. The grip needed to disengage the lock with my left thumb feels very insecure/unsafe, like I am going to cut myself or drop the knife. (Same issue I had with the PM2). I think switching the clip to left side carry would probably help by creating some additional surface area for me to grip with my fingers.

So to sum it up. If you love the comp lock, love the military ergos and size, but didnt carry it because of the liner lock/single position clip, then the military 2 is gonna be your new favorite knife

If Sal makes a lefty M2. I am all in…
