Got my new Spyderco tri-angle sharpmaker and sharpened my Rc3. Wow!!! This is an amazing sharpener! I thought I had it good with the 2 step cheap sharpeners but I was wrong. The Spyderco is beyond what I imagined. You guys recommended it and you were right. Thanks. It's worth every penny.

Pcboss2, OH yea They are Great ! Got mine a few years ago And Love it!!and worth those Pennies!!!

Congrats  If you don't already have the Ultra-fine stones, I highly recommend them. They can get the edge freaky sharp :D

I got mine today too, I don't understand how to sharpen the blade without dulling the tip.

Get a Sharpie and a strop and you're good to go. The Sharpmaker weakness is that it takes a while to reprofile.

I love my sharpmaker, great sharpening system. Works like a charm, takes little getting used to but produces superior results pretty quickly.

Ah, I see. I have a system similar to the sharpmaker, but it has round rods (only got it to see if I could work with that kind of setup, cause this was a lot cheaper, but it sucks for the tip). The sharpmaker would do a far better job on the tip ...

Yes, sharpmaker is very good at making edge scary sharp, especially with ultra fine stones...down side is that my left arm always looks very weird, being all hairless after every sharpening session.
As for the tip, it is essential you dont go too fast and not putting to much pressure. Otherwise it will take it out.

LOL exactly, my arm and leg look like I have mange, patches of hair missing from testing all my knives! I think my Sharpmaker complements my RC knives very well.

Glad you are getting good results with the Sharpmaker. It is a great system and as has already been suggested, pick up a pair of the Ultrafine stones. Your edges will be hair-whittling sharp.

As far as not rounding off the tip, the key is go controlled and slow enough to NOT DRAG THE TIP OFF THE STONE at the end of the stroke (when going heel to tip). It's a bit harder to do when using the corners but very easy to stop your stroke when using the flats. The other key with the SM is to not use too much pressure.

Keep those RATS sharp!

that's it. finally pulled the trigger and ordered one of these. hope it treats me as well as it sounds like it should. :P

So would you guys recommend the Sharpmaker over a system like the Lansky? I'm just not happy with the edge I'm putting on my RAT. It's pretty good, but not great. I've used a lot of miracle sharpeners that didn't work and other than that it's been all whetstones.

Glad the op is "likin" the sharpmaker.

As for the Sharpmaker over the Lansky I would say yes. I have both don't use the lanksy much any more. Very pleased with the edge I get from the sharpmaker.
