New Steel CPM MagnaCut available today

Very good read and great job. I’m going to try and get my hands on some to do some heat treat testing with my equipment. Looks like a great steel with a wide range of uses.

got 2 bars ordered as well. I’m thinking this is perfect for those thin fillet knives people love for us to cut.

I posted this question in the other thread but I'll probably get a quicker and better response here.

I got a bar today. Looks relatively easy for a noob like me to tackle the HT on so I'm really excited to give it a try. 2 things I can't seem to find the answer on though. Is it recommended to be foil wrapped before it goes into the oven? Can it be spring tempered? If so at what temperature to achieve a hardness between 48 - 50? If this has already been talked about somewhere I apologize in advance and maybe I could be pointed in that direction to self educate. Thanks!

I snagged a bar of .063 and .093 going to cnc cut then up and toss them on the website. I figure there are a lot if people that want to try it out but do t want to spend a few hundred bucks doing so. Thinking this would be good steel for bird and trouts or fillet knives.

Congratulations Larin, are you officially a steel designer now?

The article sounds like a lot of work and it was really interesting.

I would love a bar of thin stuff but it's below the min order of 100 dollars and I don't even know if they ship to Europe. Maybe someone would be willing to split an order of thin stuff and ship one bar to me to Europe (maybe cut in half for easier shipping). It's a lot to ask ATN but let me know.

Hey Larrin. If you ever come up to Syracuse to go to Crucible look me up and I will buy you lunch. 360.305.6225. I live about 10 minutes away.

I was officially a steel designer before, but this is my first martensitic stainless steel.

I’ll be in London late this month. If I have any left I’ll see if I can send u

Just read the article. My budget is tight right now but I'm snagging a piece of this for personal use at least. You targeted this to my favorite steels and if it is half of what you say it will be my favorite steel period. Thanks for all the hard work and sleepless nights. I hope it is a rewarding feeling and hopefully there is some reward. I'm sure your wife hopes that too. I'm done typing and have some ordering to do.

Can I claim 2 .093 pieces right now? I'd like a couple to experiment on getting spring temper down with.

I should have known better, so officially a martensitic stainless steel designer :)

That's a very generous offer. I bet your customers are gonna be all over it, but if there is even a small piece left over, give me a nudge here!

It looks like the 0.125 and 0.93 stock is already sold out or I am not seeing it.

Larrin - this is totally and utterly unfair of you. .... you come out with this just when I was finally starting to settle on two specific steels to stick with.. :-)

Larrin Larrin , Do you think the corrosion resistance and toughness will drop down significantly if I use 2150F austenitizing and 1000F tempering?
