New steel

Looks like they were delayed and didnt release it at shot, at the very least theirs no knives ready yet.

My dealer called today and asked, and they told him there will be No new steel for the Umnum this year. :(

So are the two umnums produced the only ones which will have new steel for the entire year.

Crap. As much as I like the design of the Umnumzaan, there's no way I'll get one with regular old S30V. Especially with all the cutting edge new steel types out there already.
Not that I don't like S30V, but if I'm going to buy a $400 knife it's going to have the best steel available.

me too :D
God I love this knife. So smooth and Bg 42. S30v doesn't even compare imo.

Same for me. I have a 2001 Small Sebenza Left Hand in BG42 - still my daily EDC. I also have/had knives made with S30V, ATS34, 154CM, and I still like BG42 better ;)

All you folks that are down on S30V have never owned a RJ Martin...IMO BG42 is not a Superior steel.

I think if Chris Reeve was using BG42 today there would be folks that wanted S30V.

I think the heat treating process used by different maker's may be the key.

I own many RJ Martins that have S30V blades that i use and it's amazing how sharp they are and how long they will hold an edge.....one that i have used the hell out of for over a year and when i finally thought it was dull, i stropped it about 6 passes on each side and it is shaving sharp once again.

I own more than a few sebenza's in BG42 and ATS34 and i don't personally believe that they are any better. (JMO)

That is actually something that makes a lot of sense - well said

I think that us who love the BG42 blades in our Sebenzas don't like just BG42 in general (since that would be too broad of an statement), but we really like how BG42 was heat treated in the Sebenza blades. At least for my own Sebenza, the BG42 stays sharp longer than any other blade steel I own ;)

I'm just comparing the Bg42 blade to the S30v in my own Sebenzas. Not making a generalization towards the steel or the entire industry. Just to the two sebenzas I have, and I will always like the one with Bg42 more.

They don't call it R.J sharp for nothing. :D

take care eh
