New Sticky?

So I was thinking the other day, 'I've only been here a few months but I keep seeing the same threads popping up (probably been guilty of creating some myself), so why not put a sticky up that deals with the three most commonly repeated threads?'

To this end I was thinking of maybe having a sticky that would cover 'best camp knife for various prices', 'psk contents and containers', 'best axe', 'best daysack/rucksack/bergen'.

Just thought it would be very handy to have this body of information available with one or two clicks.

So to this end I was thinking we could either run a few threads now to get a list of gear for each future thread. Then compile the answers into polls. So you can vote for your favorite in whatever section you want.

Once all this is done we create the sticky listing the items of gear we previously voted on and ranking them with numbers of votes each got. That should be the fairest way of doing everything.

If a new product or idea comes onto the forum then we could do a quick review every 2 or 3 months ( I don't see it changing that much so shouldn't be too much work to rejig some stuff) of the sticky and update it if need be.

Now I understand this would be a big undertaking but I do believe it would be a real asset to the forum and all it's members.

Thoughts please?

No.

lol..... just foolin'

But seriously.... That's what search options are for...

When I post in a thread I try to look up past topics to see if its a double post.

Type in "camp knife" and see how many threads come up.... Being an administrator on other sites, I know how fast a Sticky/Pinned thread can grow. I don't mind a repeat thread every one in a while.... but to have to search through 35pgs of posts.... if they even stay on topic, is a PITA.

S-E-A-R-C-H What's that spell? Search!

Stickies can be an annoyance to scroll through. I'm of the philosophy of keeping them to a minimum. Is there even a sticky philosophy?

oh boy we need a sticky for this one to a guy made that suggestion about a year ago they wound up saying use the search before you post. or google it.
O.T have you ever seen doomsday the countryside they showmin that movie is beauti. is that what it looks like over there.

Further, as history shows, most people do not read stickies.

Check out the Service and Support from time to time to see how often they don't!

+1 for less stickies. If the thread is a repeat, rag in good nature then point to recent thread or just ignore it and move on. I find that the repeat of threads is usually helpful to rehash/rediscuss issues and/or show how we have changed stances.

I think we should have a sticky where we can post recommendations for other stickies.

And a "child board" within that sticky for topics related to wanting stickies.... along with a sticky help thread to assist in posting sticky threads pertaining to unsticking previously stuck threads that failed to stick to the stuck sticky.
