New Strider Questions about fit and finish

I got a new strider this morning. It is my first strider. I have owned a lot of CRK knives and maybe im spoiled but this strider has me a little concerened. I ordered an SNG with a stone wash finish from knifeart.com After looking over the knife for a few minutes there are a few things that I was wondering.

1. The pocket clip. The pocket clip on the bent part is not touching the Ti scale. Its close maybe an 8th of an inch away. Is that normal for strider?
2. The blade stop on one side has a lot of the black worn off of it. I think this might be from pressing the stop through the blade. I think that might be normal?
3. The blade is kind of dull near the tip. It has a micro bevel on the blade. Do striders come from the factory with a micro bevel?

besides from that it looks great. Perfect centering and early lockup.

Can someone tell me if those things are normal in a strider?

Congratz.
The cilp should be tight. You can bend it back tight.
The blade stop should be a solid color. hmmm...
The blade point is normal.
I could live with these things. Can you?

As per Mick's FAQ, he says that they bend the clip close enough to the handle to still be able to slide a piece of notebook paper under it without it catching. They make them that way.

The stop pin may have some rub marks on it, it doesn't make a difference. Striders are made as work knives. Whereas I may find them to be very aesthetically pleasing and make up the bulk of my collection, they are manufactured to stand up to hard use and have little concern for perfection in finish.

That's just how they sharpen the production models. There's nothing wrong with it.

With all that considered, you've just purchased a knife with some of the best service and warranty available, and should you find any of these things to be an issue you can contact Strider and they will fix it until you are happy.

Congratulations on the new Strider, what kind did you get?

Looking at my newest Strider SMF I bought back in April right now. First thing the clips on all 3 of my striders are not touching the TI side but only by a very small amount about the thickness of paper, but they all hold very well and are quite difficult to get out of my pocket.(Not a bad thing I like my knife to stay in place) I would say I have normal wear on my blade stop on my SMF I carry all most every day for work it has worn off on the back side where it hits the TI/G-10, and on the corner of the pin both sides from use and rubbing stuff in my pocket. As for the edge all of my striders have been OK sharp from Strider but I usaly Put my own edge on them with a Edge Pro and strops. I like to keep my edge at 45 Degrees inclusive on my striders. I'm in the construction business and cut lots of heaver materials and do not like a flimsy say 30 degree edge or finer alot of guy run on their knives. Over all im real happy with striders current fit and finish but im the type of guy that gets a new truck and first thing I do it scratch it that way I don't worry about getting any sctatchs in it later on.

Thanks guys. Yea i can totally live with it. I use the hell out of my knives. I was just wondering what a "new" strider looked like.

I got a stoned washed SNG in 154cm. I do like the feel of it. Very comfortable. Here are a few pics.

Thanks again for the info.

Would you accept a brand new work truck with various manufacturing issues, just because it's a work truck?

Any item manufactured and sold as "New" should be a close to perfect as possible, without the excuse or caveat that it will be "Hard use."

Since the OP expressed concern, he may be satisfied with a piece that's better finished out-of-the-bag.

I was just concerened that it may have been a used knife. If thats the way they do production, then thats cool. Just being my first strider it kind of caught me off guard.

Broh- Thata boy. Never sell your Strider. If it ever bores you, throw it in your drawer. Yull just get another. I know.

Yea been down that road before. I already want another one. I just got back from afghanistan so im kind of treating myself to toys that Ive been wanting.... Decisions, decisions...

And I wasn't implying that he was wrong for feeling the way that he did. I actually feel that I answered the OP question adequately and politely.

To me, Striders don't have any "manufacturing issues", but rather an aesthetically imperfect finish. The fit and quality of the knife are superb.

Congrats bangelo!

I'm very close to buying my first SnG and that is the exact same style I'm interested in. :D
(Black G10, flamed Ti, stonewashed FFG blade.)

Do it. Ive been cutting things all day. I even cut off a hunk of my coworkers hair. Hes kind of a hippie like that. Its a good size too. I think the SMF might be too big for carry.

I completely understand you about the SMF being too big.

I would love to be able to conveniently carry a large, 6oz knife... but I just can't.

The SnG seems almost perfect. It's badass, but it's rather normal.

Get the CC configuration! Then you get the best of both worlds.

Definitely. If I were to get the SMF, I'd get the CC version.

I don't think I'm man enough to jump straight to the SMF first, so I'll cautiously introduce myself to Strider with the SnG.

If you purchased the knife from knifeart then look at it. That's what a new strider looks like.

One of my blade stop pins had some black missing on the TI side when I got it. Not a big deal. I have a SnG SW Tanto, and the grind is fantastic. Striders are "tools" for hard use.
