New Style Kukhri

So do y'all think that $20.00 for one with a repaired scabbard and $10.00 for one quite a bit longer with about a third or so of the scabbard missing was too much too pay at a gun and knife show?
I love the chip carving and the brass inlay and filework on the blades!!!!  :D
It's good to finally know where they came from anyway. ;)

Well That Sounds a good price to me Yvsa.

Got any pix?

Most Ive seen at dealers are bout $40 to $50 each.

But I bet Artzi sells them for a lot more.

got this one embarrasingly cheap :o
8" loa, german hunter (£1.20):D

me likey stag grips....

also missed a couple i would have liked to get but they went way beyond my budget.....

Wow! that looks a nice old fullered blade for £15!

I wonder ifIs it European or African manufacture?

& £1.20?

Wow again! The postage will probably be another 10 cigaretes though!

I just love ebay! :D

i'm not quite sure about the rough stag one, do african blades come with stag grips? this one is really rough. has a small crack which will need restoring. might be easier to tell if it had it's scabbard. closeup of grip:

for the smaller one, the postage was £2, so it was more than the knife itself!

i've now built up 4 assorted blades that need scabbards, i'll have to pop down to the diy store & pick up some hardwood strips and start sawing & glueing...

Well Id guess handle on sword was from a large Roe deer, The English, Scots & Germans used that for swords & knives possibly many others to.

But perhaps other deer have similar pearling as well?

But no guard doesnt look European to me, so I was guessing a European trade blade for Africa or a north African manufacture even.

The blade looks old so I guess like many old kukri might have even been rehandled at some time in its life?

Be intresting to hear what you think when you get it.
It certanly appers a nice piece!

update:

PI 'Kukhri' and stag handled short sword arrived today. pics:
(UK Penny in pics is same size as US Cent)

bolo0.jpg

right side, 3/16"x7/8"x17 3/8" blade, 3.5" stag grip, full tang, end peened
one long fuller each side from grip 3/4 to tip, two add'l. fullers in portion just before tip,
symmetrical both sides. blade spine is 3/16" at grip, distally tapers to tip area.
blade is flexible spring steel, some heavypitting near tip, staining & light pitting rest of blade.
grip is very old stag & very brown with age. blade thickness swells just at the grip,
so is not a cut down sword blade. have cleaned off any active rust with a
brass brush & wiped down with ballistol.

bolo right side, grip is 4"x1"x3/4". blade is 9 3/4"x 1 3/4" at widest, 1/4" thick at grip,
unsharpened ricasso, blade is distally tapered to the point,
rough forged and shows some evidence of folding/lamination in the steel.
scabbard is a very light wood, mde in two halves and held together with rattan braided bands.
the white 5 part braided suspension with mini-carabiner is my addition.
have put 3 coats of oil finish on the assemblage. grip was very dark in original pic
and blade had a whitish cast. turned out to be dirt on grip & some gunk on the blade,
all of which came off with a soapy sponge prior to oil finishing the wood & ballistol for the blade.

bolo reverse side.

p.s. - the german hunter came in today as well, quick lick with the diamond lansky & a swipe on the leather strop & it's razor sharp. looks just like the earlier pic, so no new one yet. sheath needs a bit of re-stiching when i've got a few minutes. remaining algerian blade still to come....

Its Nice when a few blades turn up at the door! Sounds like a good Cache!

Interesting fullering on that sword blade, cant recall seeing that before, ever, The 2 short fullers more to the tip rather than the handle end.

Quite an identyfying charateristic perhaps?
