Olive wood has always been a favorite handle material of mine. Very popular with those customers that like lighter colored woods. Several years back I scored a couple really special, highly figured pieces. When that ran out I'd been having trouble finding any more that I really liked. Don't know if I'd been spoiled but most of what I was buying, was well.....boring. Recently I was looking around outside of my normal suppliers as again what was available with them was making me yawn. I came across this site: http://olivewoodcreations.com/

I emailed my inquiry as their site says to do. They responded quickly and after a couple of emails to determine what I wanted exactly, I placed an order with them for four 2"x 2"x 12" pieces. They have a good friend who is a knife maker so they understood what I was looking for. I received the order very quickly, turns out they were only a couple of hours away. This olive I received is spectacular. It is exactly what I'd been looking for. Highly figured just as the pics on their webpage showed. I cut the pieces into scales and I couldn't be happier with this material. Each and every scale is solid, dry, usable, minimal cracks, no voids, hard and dense as well as highly figured. They packaged the inside of the box with some scraps to keep the "good stuff" from banging around inside the box too much. I even got a couple of scales from the scrap.

So I will definitely be ordering from these folks again and wanted to share the info with anyone else that might be looking for some really nice olive. Let them know you are a knife maker when you order. Their main business is for turners, particularly bowl turners (its what they do too) and certain "faults" in knife handle materials are extra cool factors in bowls. So just let them know what you are looking for.

if you don't mind me asking, how much were you charged and for how many pieces? can you show any pics

Jason, their rate is $10 a lb. My four 2"x 2" x 12" pieces were an even $100 including shipping. Email me and I can send ya pics.

Is the wood green? Or is it dried? Also, what city are they in? I have several friends with working olive orchards and they won't let me cut down branches! This stuff sure is pretty!

What I've received is dry. They're in Visalia. Its an old grove. Planted in 1904 so I guess they've got some old tress, maybe some that have died off.
