Well, my Ontario Bowie Survival had to be sold, so now that I've got the funds, it's time for me to look for a new survival knife. I'm looking for something that can be used for batoning, skinning, and general camp use. My requirements are below...
1. Under $70. I know there are lots of customs, Bark Rivers, Helles, etc. but my limit is going to have to be $70.
2. Blade thickness of at least 3/16" for chopping and batoning.
3. Blade length of at least 7"
4. Choil or guard required.
5. Secure sheath.
I've been looking at the Kabar 1277 Large Heavy Bowie and it seems ideal... 9" blade, 1095 carbon steel, 1/4" thick, Kraton handle, $45. It's made in Taiwan, but that's okay if everything else is up to Kabar's standards.
I have several Moras and they're great, but I'm looking for something a little heavier duty. Any help would be appreciated.
