I finished forging this cavalry saber Saturday, and hardened it Sunday. I did the tempering last night. It is 56 layer twist of 15N20 and 1050. I threaded the tang today and did a test fit of the parts. The blade isn't sanded or etched yet (the pattern shows from the temper). I'll take good photos and give all the specs when done, hopefully this weekend or next.

Lookin GOOD Stacy! Hope yer using a power hammer...makes me tired if yer not! I've got most off the pieces for my 100 lb air hammer ...hope to get it together by this summer....lookin forward to seein the finished product! Bill

OOOOUh! ya are hard core...thats good! I really do like to make the anvil ring as I make a blade but this ole arm needs some relief some times! I ain't gettin any younger thats for sure! I'm still workin on my first katana style blade of 3/4 5160 round at 37 inches now flat and 49 inches long...8 hours later... not all at once of course! Yea I'm gonna get some help, want it , need it , gonna have it! Bill

Now that is going to look good finished out! How do you do your quech? The reason I'm asking is I got talked into doing a 12" bowie and the little forge I'm using it's hard to get even temp up to criticle.

Make for sure you show pics when done.

Nice looking piece of work Stacy: I would love to see the finished work when you post it. I am always happy to see your work. Thanks for posting this part of the job.

Looks great. I can't believe you got that much detail in the blade before etching.
I am looking for 1050 currently, because the hamon on that steel is fantastic looking.
Can't wait to see it finished.

Dave
