about a year and a half ago, before i got my first AK, the knife that i took out most was a stainless steel CS trailmaster. Monster of a knife it was,,, whenever somebody unfamiliar with knives saw it, they would always comment on its size and cruel dispostion. I guess it WAS a big knife. After i got my first AK, the trailmaster was put away for a rainy day. It has been about a year since it last rained. From the day my AK arrived it took over my trailmaster's duties, and has been performing beautifully. anyways back to the point, last night, i took out my trailmaster to give it its occasional coating of oil, and alas! it had shrunk!!, after using the AK, my trailmaster seemed as light as a fighter. I swear that my trailmaster used to be a monster of a knife, but now, my trailmaster sits in the corner, resigned, sulking, and old.

the moral of this story is to keep your other knives away from your HI khuks. your HI khuks will cause your other knives to shrink, and this causes an inferiority complex in other knives. This condition could seriously affect the mental health of your other knives... just giving you guys a fair warning.

Well there are other symptoms as well:

1) waiting for the postman ready to grab the box out of his hands as soon as he walks up the drive way. This symptom has led many a spuse to post signs that bear the warning: Beware of HIKV Victim.

2) Twitchy mouse finger. This symptom is defined by the increased speed at which the operator uses the mouse just in case, there is a UBDOTD. This syptom is also closely realted to hitting the 'refresh' button repeatedly.

3) Last but not least my favorite, looking at other knives and quoting 'Crocodile Dundee'. "You call that a kinfe... This is a KNIFE!'

The same thing happend to my Gil Hibbon Rambo III... when I bought it, it was a monster of a knife at 14" ...now, when it's sitting next to the king kobra.... hmmm...puny...

i always feel like a ninja version of paul bunyun whenever i use my AK... just imagine if you will, a 12 foot khukuri!!!

:
I have Always been for carrying and using large knives!!!
There are those who will make fun of a man or woman who carries a big knife in the woods or fields, but when something that their puny little blades won't cut happens guess who they come looking for.

You can use a nice sharp axe to do things a lot of people wouldn't think of, not meaning it's the best tool to do it with, but it will work.
The thing that really matters though and the point with the axe is that you can use a big knife to do things a small one won't, but it doesn't work the other way around.
Besides with a khukuri you have a small knife and sometimes two like in the case of the YCS.

Wow Yvsa, you REALLY like the YCS don't you? it's almost as if you designed it, or something...

The YCS is an instant classic and you have every right to be proud of it Yvsa.

Since I got my first khuk. my perspective on knife size has definately changed. 10" blade isn't large at all.

the thing i really like about my khukuri is that it's a "user" so i never have to polish it...

doesn't a high polish finish retard rust? when i say that i never polish mine, i'm not expecting it to rust through or anything, except that for a "user", even with rust on it, the rust would be scraped off in one way or another through the chores that it is put through.(delimbing branches, splitting firewood, cutting down trees, carving up buicks,...etc.) and i oil it after every use.
anyways unkle, why don't you polish your blades? you must know something that i don't.

p.s. if the wolf had an AK when he ran into those damn pigs, he would have saved his lungs a lot of trouble. ~thought of the day

I started out buying one of those "Minis" from another dealer that run around 12 inches overall. Then I bought a villager Chainpuri from eBay that is 15 inches long. Onto to a 20 inch Sirupati, and the Khukuris kept getting bigger and heavier.

Since owning the 30 inch Kobras and and 18 inch Ang Khola, I find that anything under 18 inches is too small as a belt or outdoor knife for me.

I counted the number of Khukuris that I now own. Since I started collecting these things about two months ago, I have managed to gain (including the three 30 inch Kobras) 13, plus a Tarwar, plus an Everest Katana on order. Man, I think that I had better slow down, or at least get something for my HIKV

The only way to tell if you have been buying too many, is if you find yourself eating an awful lot of macaroni and cheese for dinner

:
DD that sounds about right for a serious case of HIKV.

There's six, seven if you count the kagas katne, in various places within less than arms length around my desk right now. Let alone a JKM-1, a Kumar Karda, Marble's Woodcraft, German Flame' Dagger, Cattaragus Q225, a new Arclite, an old Cable Damascus, and a Busse Basic 9 and E-BM.
Oh and an Old Scimitar Steak Cutter, imitation Rogers fold up Bowie, and a stainless Handmade my b-i-l gave me.
i'm not gonna look around any more.

I know at the moment I have around 21 khukuri's not counting the 3 or 4 kagas katnes that's in different places around the house, as well as having 3 more coming in the hopefully not to distant
future.
And counting all the other different knives I have, well, not as many as some people, but I bet mine will weigh more....

I have always been fascinated with "real" khukuris since seeing one at a customers house way back when I worked on washing machines in the late 50's.
I thought it was a huge knife then, but now I know it was probably about an 18" military model since it had the dual straps on the scabbard.
It had a nice karda and chakma wih it too.
Strange how I can recall things like that that happened so long ago and can't recall where I put the manual to my Mossberg 500 just a while back.
