new taylor made schrades?

Canal Street Cutlery was founded by and is staffed by, former Schrade USA people. to me, they are the current Schrades.

Today I went to some local hardware stores that are Case dealers to see what they could sell me, I didn't come home with a new Case, but I did get to check out several new Schrades.

Most of the ones I handled had good F+F similar to other good chinese knives. I have noticed that most good knives of chinese origin have the same odd styling about them. It is like all the edges (whole knife, not just the blade) are sharper than most other knives of different countries. They also seem to have more narrow blades than the US counterparts, it looks like they are all made at the same factory (steel warrior, taylor, rough rider).

One display in particular caught my eye, as I walked in a farmers service center, I noticed a cardboard display with Barlows sercured to it (just like back in the good ole' days). After I regained consciousness, I walked over to it and to my dismay they were extremely cheap china Schrades. They had the imperial stamp and were as cheaply made as can be, they had flimsy and hollow plastic handles and blades that were covered in that cheap chrome plating that likes to chip off. They all had excellent walk and talk though.

I was feeling a little dissappointed that I didn't get a new knife when nowhere near the knife display, I noticed a Schrade hanging on a peghook in a blister pack, it was a SP3 (the lockback with the zytel handle) with a sharpening stone and made in the USA! It was the last one left and only $12 out the door. I am gonna keep this one mint as I really don't like partially serrated blades.

I am now off to track down a Buck 301 and some good BBQ for lunch. Wish me luck.
