New Ti/CPM4 Millie Not Smooth At All....

I got my new cpm4/Ti Millie today. F/F is great. The opening and closing is

by far the worst of any Spydie I own. The inside of the lockbar is rubbing a

lot on the blade. If I push the lockbar out the knife is nice and smooth.

Anyone have any ideas about how Spyderco can fix the rubbing? Does

anyone else have the same problem?

The Sebenza is the single finest crafted, precision made production knife, period. It has this "issue" too, when new. Keep working the action, and it'll break in.

Mine produces no roughness or grinding. Note that there is a tiny ball (or a protrusion that looks like a ball) on the steel insert, and the blade appears to ride on that ball or protrusion during the opening process. I don't think the lockbar or steel insert should be riding on the blade, but rather that tiny ball or protrusion on the steel insert should be the only thing that touches the blade during the opening. Thats my take on it, anyway.

Bottom line, on my Ti-G10, there is the slightest, almost imperceptible sound during the opening, but no grinding, stiffness or anything like that.

Mine is as smooth as the Orange Millies and those were the smoothest Milles I have ever used.

is it rubbing a screwhead or pin that holds the steel insert in place? How far off center is the blade?

mine is way smooth compared to my D2, but the detent isn't as stiff. I think it has to do with how hard the lockbar is pressing against the blade.

Mine has the same issue as clockman. Something is just not smooth on opening and closing. You can feel and hear a slight scraping sound. I tried oil, then tried grease, still there. My other militaries are much smoother. I guess I'll work with it some more, see what happens, if it's not better by Monday, looks like I'll have to call Spyderco. And no I don't want to sell it.

My Sage 2 had the same grinding/scraping sound and feel.

After 50 or so openings the ball bearing had worn a slight groove/track in the blade and is now very smooth opening and closing.

Take into consideration the wear resistance of M4, but maybe the Millie will be similar??

No issues to report on mine - I received it today. The blade is perfectly centered and the knife opens smooth as glass.

Thanks Plantzer. Ive been workin' the action a bit. It's getting smoother but

I want to spend more time with it. I'd say the rubbing is about 60% less

than when I started. Thanks so much for the advice!;)

Trying to not get my panties in wad, but dang my blade is way off center. I'd say 70/30 or near abouts. Tons of blade play when closed so I can push it to center easily. I'm also hearing the grind. For the wait, the price, the poor fit & finish. I'm just not impressed. Honestly, other than the lock and the Ti slab, it not much different than my tenacious. Don't get me wrong, I love my spydies, but this is a let down. Any suggestions before I give up on her?

Im still available if you want to dispose of it.;)

Pivot adjust? I know I'd be sick if I was looking at issues because I have had issues before and I was sick about it. Mine isn't micrometer centered but I have to stare hard to see the offset. Maybe 99/1 on mine is all.

There's a good amount of pressure from the lockbar so I think some stiffness is expected. I'm pleased with the action on mine.

Try loosening up the pivot screw and all the frame screws at the same time and tighten back up.

Mine's a bit off-center when closed and a bit rough opening and closing, both of which rate a big "so what?" in my book. It may be a limited edition dealer special, but it is still a production knife, not a hand-fitted $500 custom.
