Someone recently told me of Bark River knives, and after about ten seconds of looking around i decided i needed one. It would be a general bushcraft/ survival knife for backpacking, I've looked at the Bravo 1 and the Aurora. Any thoughts/suggestions?

The bravo series are extremely nice knives. The gunny or bravo 1 would do just fine, I personally like larger blades though so my pick would be the bravo 2 mainly because i carry a folder that's usually in the 4 inch range.

BRKT produces a sweet convex blade, the A2 tool steel also holds up great and sharpens easy.

I've noticed Mike Stewart's avatar over on knifeforums has three knives in it: a Golok, a Canadian Special, and a little one I can't make out. Any Bark River fans know what the third knife is ?

im pretty sure i saw him say it was a pro scaple. could be wrong tho. i personally only have experience with the Canadian Special, being my first and only Bark River. It has a thick blade capable of sustaining heavy use but allowing it to be sufficient enough for general bushcraft. Ive yet to throw something at it that it cant handle and i have literally beat the crap out of it. Mike has also stated very plainly that the CS is his fav. all around camp knife in the medium size range. I also here good things about the full tang kephart and it will be my next barkie. i dont think you can go wrong with any of them. Ill own many in the near future, my third being th Bravo 1. Like most brands, Barkies are an addiction. My name is perchjerk, and im a Barkaholic!

Thanks. Gotta say I've always liked the design of the Candian Special over the Bravo 1 and the Aurora. I know there's a lot of fans of the Fox River out there too. There's so many good ones, I think people should go with what looks best to them for starters.

I've got an Aurora I've been trying to sell. Everytime I pick it up to take pictures, the comfort and balance change my mind. When I think of a fixed bladed do it all, camping, hunting, messing around knife I don't think it will be topped. I just can't imagine a better handle and balance.

I am not any kind of expert or even experienced in bushcraft type stuff though.

liten bror a true scandi for bush craft and bravo 1 or gunny for hunting survival and general save your life needs

The Fox River is also a popular general use model. With Bark River, there are many options for a general purpose outdoor knife, depending on the size knife you wish to carry. You really can't go wrong with any of the models mentioned, so buy the one that appeals to you.

If you have a chance to hold them in your hands it would be useful. The handle sizes vary quite a bit. In anycase, I find the Bravo 1 to be an excellent knife

Really like my North Star. Would like to add a Can.Special to my collection. I currently own North star, Mini North star, Mini Can., Micro Can. & Gunny.

You need one of these...

How do you think the Liten Bror in 3V compares to the gunny in A2? They are close in price and size.

All of the Bark Rivers are pretty amazing. I've yet to come across one that didn't cut like a laserbeam, or wasn't amazingly well-finished. I love all of my Barkies. The Bravo-1 is a real winner, for sure. I also really like my Blackstorm, and my Golok. And my Bravo-2. The only one I'm not head-over-heels in love with is the Bravo Necker, and I think that's because I haven't had a chance to use it for much yet.

As has been said, you really can't go wrong with any of Bark River's knives. They're all performers. It just depends on what size and configuration you're looking for.

I have an STS-5 on its way to me- I can't wait for that thing to show up.

I'm surprised no one has posted up the generic Bark River warning that goes out to all newcomers.

DO NOT purchase a Bark River knife unless you are prepared to purchase several.

I bought one, and probably have close to 40 now.

Consider yourself cautioned. :D:thumbup:
