New to BF, and looking at a rat3

I don't recall talking to anyone about this. Maybe Mike did though. I know he has been sick for the past week and sort of short with everyone, so my apologies sir!. Feel free to call me on my cell 256-527-2808.

Since there's some handle discussion on this thread, I figured I'd take a mini tangent just to have someone confirm: the way I understand it, the only difference between the RC-3 and RC-4 regarding the handle is cause by the difference in the steel thickness. Is this correct? Is it noticable?

That is correct. The tang is slightly thicker on the RC-4. No noticeable difference, IMO.

Blade Collector,
If you called the company phone line, 865-933-8436, then you talked to me. I honestly do not remember when or what the conversation was about but I apologize if I came accross short. I generally try to be pleasant and courteous with everybody on the phone. If you want to call back or give me a contact number I will be happy to call back. mike@ratcutlery.com

Thanks, Mike

It was all done thru e-mails and I didnt get his name. I really like the look of the knives but not if I dont get treated like a valued customer. I buy a lot of knives in a year in which equals alot of money spent, but I want to feel welcomed and appreciated at the same time. I dont know, the fella may have just had a bad day. I just cant get my hands on one to know for sure if I want to buy my father-in-law and myself one.

Please post the emails up here when you have time. If I was short with you on email then I apologize but I guess the main question is did I answer your questions? Usually I am direct and to the point on email since I get more than 200 emails a day in regards to RAT Cutlery knives. I can't take a lot of time getting long-winded in my answers. Again, please post the emails up and let me see where I went wrong.

My email address is jeff@ratcutlery.com

I don't know the context of the emails that you have so i'm going to go out on a limb a little here. Jeff and Mike are very appreciative of the people who buy their products. Just read thru the many threads here and you can see that. I know when dealing with typed words you sometimes miss a bit of the meaning because of this. I know there have been times when I read a post I have to go back and read it again because I got the wrong meaning out of it. I think you would be hard pressed to find a couple of more stand up people like Jeff and Mike who go out of their way to update us on their products, only to have us act the proverbial kids on a trip going "Are we there yet" :p. Both Jeff and Mike have stated they would like to talk to you about things. Contact them and I think you'll see what I'm talking about. We are pretty much a big family here and are always looking for new members to come join us :D.

Well said XD and exactly correct.

Again, I apologize if we hurt someone's feelings because it was not the intent. Please feel free to email me at jeff@ratcutlery.com or call me on my cell (256) 527-2808 and I will be happy to apologize directly if you will let me know what was said. I apologize for not remembering who you are or what you wanted and vague postings on an internet forum is not telling me a whole lot. Let's settle this and move on. Peace, brother.

Well said XD but one thing about THe RAT gang is we all have Good days & Bad ,I get alot of PM's & or Emails inquiring about RAT cutlery or how does this RC model compare to this one or peeps asking for pictures,or just general RC questions and I do not mind answering them if I have a honest answer ,I maybe slow at returning a email or pm and that is due to no email at the house...I am not part of the RAT group no more that anybody else who buys the knives. I just love the blades and the Business ethics of RAT Cutlery, jeff & mikes way of doing business ,Honest with no holds barred.

I am new to BF as well and am cosidering the RC-3. I have a few concerns though. I am fairly new to upper level knives and am wondering if the RAT line is worth the price. I contacted the RAT office and the owner was pretty short and did not seem interested in my business. In fact I thought of just buying an Ontario make of this knife so I did not have to contact him again. Is the Ontario knives line essentially the same? What steel is used in the Ontario line? Any and all comments are appreciated!!!!

Wow, did you catch rat on a bad day? I left a message once and got a call that day and talked 20 min. about ontario fiasco which has been whipped enough. They were great with my shipping questions and got prompt e-mail replies. |They even waved the extra shipping cost when I SCREWED UP on shipping and offered to pay the difference. The knives are well worth the money and superior to the ontario line . The steel and components are the same with both (1095) just RAT has better finish and quality control which to my understanding is a main reason RAT went there own way.
Buy the real deal and anybody can be caught on a bad day.
RAT RULES!!!!

Jeff And Mike,
I myself apologize that this situation has become such a huge issue. I seriously am not trying in any form or fashion to smear your name or downgrade your business. Acting in vengeance is not what the good Lord would have us to do. I feel that between the craftsmanship, materials, and warranty, this is the type of knife I have been looking for as a camp knife and that it can take whatever is thrown at it. I am VERY interested in your knives and am foaming at the mouth to get my hands on one. I have researched all over the area I live in, and cannot find a single dealer. I am hoping that somewhere down the line I can get my hands on a couple of your knives and more than likely will purchase them for my Father-in-Law and myself. Thank you and God bless.

I have yet to find a local dealer but Knivesshipfree are close enough for me plus with them in OK I do not hafta pay sales tax VS. a local dealer...I order from Derrick and have my items within a few days...THanks TTD

Thanks blade collector, but for the life of me I still don't know who was short with you and when it happened. I guess we shall never know.

Thanks,

Jeff
