Greetings,

I'm Louis from Canada and just started learning about knives.
I decided to buy 2 knives to begin with (Fox 479 Karambit & Benchmade 300-1).

If you have any tips or have an idea on how to properly maintain these knives please leave me some feedback on this thread.

Welcome to the forum. Most important thing would probably be "keep ur knife sharp" a dull blade is a useless blade. But read the thread above prob has all u need to know.

Maintenance, tinkering and embellishment will keep you distracted and in a state of OCD for a spell. Watch your wallet, it will shrink... Welcome to bf, the best forum on the internet.

And then some:D.

Having a sharp knife kind of raised my standards to the point where I'm just insulted at the "steak knife" they give me when I go out to eat, but I don't want to spook people by pulling out my Lionsteel SR-1.

If you find a Microtech-Lightfoot LCC folder on the Montreal Metro, please return it to me :upset:

Both are pretty solid brands. Can't go wrong.

Do you have experience sharpening knives? If you don't know what you're doing, you might want to practice on some cheap knives: raid your mom's kitchen drawer and sharpen whatever you can find in there. I ruined a couple of nice blades when I was learning how to sharpen years ago. Should have practiced on knives I didn't care about first.

Other than that, pick a decent lubricant for the pivot. I've been using Sentry Solutions Tuf-Glide and Break-Free CLP on all my knives and guns since the '90s. Both of them lubricate, protect against rust, and don't attract much dirt/dust or get gummy. There are newer and "better" products out there, but I haven't bothered with anything else.

Welcome to the forums Louis. As long as you aren't a Maple Leaf fan, we will get along. :D
