I want to get into collecting Buck 110's. I am going to a gun show tommorrow. Can anyone tell me what to look out for so I don't end up with a new or more common version.

Colubrid,
Welcome to the Buck forum. I would suggest that you go to the Buck website and look at the symbols that indicate the year that a certain knife was made. They have a whole page on it. In the future, I would strongly recommend you joining the Buck Collectors Club. There is a wealth of information on the club's website, in the head of the other members and within the quarterly newsletter that you receive. Finally, come back to this forum and read what others share. There are representatives from Buck that contribute a wealth of information as well as collectors that have more knowledge than most of us could collect in a lifetime.

well I wanted a quick response because i went today. Here is an idea of the 110's that were avaliable. Maybe I missed out on a good deal. ..I don't know?:

I see two new-style 110's, one for $30 and one at $39...That's too much...you can get them brand new with a *sheath* at wal-Mart for less...

I don't think you missed out on anything...110-wise, anyway...

I see a 112FG for $39...I'd say that's excessive, too...borderline, anyway...

Where are you??? I'm not doing anything tomorrow...and I need a S&W Mod 14...

There's a 110 in the middle row, 2nd in from the right end, looks like a slab-side...with dark scales...That one might be worth buying...if the blade is decent...should be 425M, shouldn't it??? I can't make out the price...

The one marked $30 looks like a pre-4 dot.

Oh, yeah - that one's a slab-side, too, isn't it??? I'd offer him $20 and settle for $25... :D (If it's really a slab-side)...

OK, I'll stick my neck out...

You going back tomorrow???

Look for 110's with square edges; not rounded...look for 2 brass rivets + one steel rivet...make sure the blades aren't scratched up a lot...if you see a black "handled" 110, with what looks like cloth in it, it's a good one...worth a bunch...if you see any 110's with only one line of text on the blade tang, or two lines, they're worth buying...if they say "Custom" on them, they're worth buying...if they say "BG-42", "ATS-34", or "S30V" on the blade, they're worth buying...

For anything I listed above, I wouldn't pay more than $60...but that's just me, and they'd need to be in great shape...not all bunged up, or ground down...

Oh - take a pocket ruler with you...don't buy any 110's less than 3 5/8" exposed blade length...3 3/4" is ideal...

Hmmm...What else???

Okay thanks for stickin your neck out Chicken. LOL!

There were other knifes that this dealer had that are not in the pic. I might go back tommorow and take a closer look. In the least take some good individual pics so I can learn something.

Thanks a bunch guys. You have all been very helpful!

How did you make out on day 2 colubrid? I've never really found a 'great deal' at a gun show. Most vendors pretty much know what they have and what things are worth. But it is fun to go and look at everything!

The knife I saw first is in the third row the 4th from the right. Tis is a German Bundeswehr-Kampfmesser, the fighting knife of the German Army. It's a quite good knife with a good steel. I don't know whether it is made in Germany. You can get it for 20 Euro (25 Dollar) at pawn shops. I found two at the German eGun.
