Hello everyone, i am new to buck knives. I have been looking for a while and i wanted to know if anyone could tell me a good knife to use for carrying on Hikes and outdoor use. I am looking at getting a folder but i have no clue what one to get. Any suggestions would be great.

You can't go wrong with a plain-Jane 110 [Wal-Mart seems to have the "most reasonable" price on them right now - the Commemorative 110 in a metal box]. If you were looking for an indoor [workplace] knife, the 112 would probably be more appropriate...but since you're outdoors, the 110 would be my knife of choice. ;)

The more expensive 110's, 112's, 560's, S30V, BG-42, Sambar Stag, etc Buck knives will follow in rapid succession... :D

clone7...welcome. Did you try here http://www.buckknives.com/ ? There's a lot of info.

You could try to get to a brick and mortar store and handle the different models. My favorite Buck folder for carry when not hunting is the 112 with fingergrooves, it's beefy enough for most jobs except the really big ones, then the 110 is the one.

You can order the 110 from the custom shop with premium steels or you can get the 110 from Cabelas in S30V. Good luck with your search. Preston

I have had Bucks since I was a kid. Pockets, 110, fixed, etc. Lost or traded most all of 'em and am getting back in to them.

I have other mfgs, but love Buck. But always seemed to have a 110 around. That is my favorite EDC.

I just purchased a 279 Alpha and like it too, but it's too thick in the bolsters for EDC.

For a fixed blade I like the 102BR for EDC. When I go camping I use a Vanguard rubber grip or fixed Alpha. But always have a 110 or 111 silver from 1980 wherever I go.

So, long way to say 110.

It would be hard to go wrong with a 110, $29.99 at most retail stores, and it's going to handle anything you would need from a folder.

I wish those narrow minded boobs at Cabela's would ship it to Canada. I would own one now if they did.

How close to the border do you live?

Could you have one shipped to a friend or relative in the USA and then drive over and get it?

I had to do that with a knife I sold last year to someone in Canada, I shiped it to his cousin just on this side and he got it from them.

Dont they ship to Canada? I went to try and check it out and they charge duty and all.

edit to add: I just emailed them and they wrote back "Yes we do ship some items into Canada, but we are not able to send a knife over the border, sorry. This is a lethal weapon and will not go through customs. Sorry for any inconvenience"

mmm that sucks

I have looked at the buck website. their is alot to choose from. this is going to be harder then i thought lol.

Clone,

You might as well start with a 110.

Because it won't stop there. :D

Welcome to the forum

Welcome to the forum clone...After you get your new 110 you better get ready to find a place to store the other ones that will "follow you home"...LOL...It will happen ...:D

haha, yeah I'm gonna have to agree. 110 is the way to go. It's a lotta knife, tho.

Not that hard to get used to. Mine is definitely always in my pocket.

Yep Clone7...like the others said...you will start with one and more will follow. After reading your post I did a quick check...as a casual collector I only have nine different 110's that are still NIB, two NIB 277's, and two 1980 111's. Certainly others here beat me by a long way. The point is that the 110 has a loyal following for various reasons that each owner can attest to for an EDC. I simply love the Buck history and for almost 35 years have always had one. Well, for awhile I carried a Cold Steel Voyager and in my vest I still carry a Cold Steel Vaquero. But as stated earlier, for years now, I have one 110 and one of the two 111's I swtich out as my EDC just because they work...everytime, everywhere.
Post on what you finally obtain.
All The Best...
