Hello, I've been considering Busse for a few years but don't have one yet. I'm not a stranger to fine knives, I've had a Randall Model 18 Since 1999, as well as some custom smaller builders.

What do I need to know about Busse? It seems for the past month or so I've been watching there's nothing to order on the web site. Do I have to wait here for the Wednesday announcement and just watch for a knife model that I want? I definitely want something in INFI. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Madness!!!

Yes -- you've arrived at the right place. Here are some key points to remember about Busse Knives:

1. INFI steel with the Busse Heat Treat is able to endure exceptional force without the steel easily chipping. It has many of the same toughness features of S7 -- but is far better at retaining its edge integrity. Furthermore, it's relatively easy to sharpen and the steel responds well to stropping for edge maintenance. Also, it's properties render it a water corrosion resistant steel.

2. Busse champions an excellent Lifetime Warranty Policy. If your knife breaks -- then you essentially get a new one or credit equal to the value of the knife bought at time of purchase. They don't hassle you and expect you to prove anything, other than sending in the knife and explaining what happened.

3. Busse has sold out many of INFI items because they are prepare to incrementally introduce a new lineup. Now it is also possible that they might be completing changing their selling/marketing patterns/techniques -- but I haven't heard anything. At the moment there is a promise of something new every couple of Wednesday's -- which is new, awesome, and traumatic for my wallet.

4. Have fun, beat on your knives, and share pictures!

My best advice would be, to just move along.
It will save you hours of anguish and torment.

Moving along, will leave your savings account intact. It will mean, that you won't give up being a normal guy.
Life will still be the same.

Buying that Busse, will divert your life in a direction you had never believed possible.

Since I first bought a Busse, I have been living in a box. A cardboard box. Clampering on to my other box. My box of knives.

Back away slowly, don't make any sudden moves, and when you are out of sight, run like hell!

Stick around. Hit up the exchange. There's plenty of INFI there at good prices if you're patient.

Welcome, and try to practice self control, otherwise prepare to cut up your credit card.

They gave you honest advice. Run like hell now! But on the other hand, if you buy a Busse, you will have many pleasant dreams of purchasing more INFI goodness. You will start to look for things to sell to purchase more and more INFI just like a crack head. You will find yourself looking out the windows waiting on a UPS truck or the mailman for packages just like you did when you were a kid. INFI is an addiction and it just so happens you came to the support group for questions. My advice, get your first......then hold on for a wild ride.

And...checkout the Busse Bad Mojo site. And prepare to drool...;-)

Murman,

Welcome to BladeForums and the Busse forum in particular! Here is a link to the badmojo site: http://www.badmojo.net/ - there is lots of good info and photos there.

I have purchased Busse knives:
1) mainly from the exchange here on BF
2) direct from the manufacturer (Busse, Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard)
3) thru special sales in this forum called "ganzas" (these happen a few times/year)
4) eBay (be careful here, because some fakes have started to show up).

The ganzas usually have limited offerings (with some models being one-of-a-kind customs), although sometimes a model is offered in unlimited numbers. Ganzas are announced in this forum.

Is there a certain type of knife you are looking for, like:
- long, short or medium length blade
- thick or thin blade
- coated or uncoated blade
- G-10, micarta or hard rubber handle (called "Resiprene C")?

Have fun in your quest!

I'm looking for a hunting/skinning knife for deer, a military style fighting knife, and a user grade gladius, in no particular order ;)

Thanks for the welcome and advice so far!

The best bet is to decide what you want, is it simply a blade of particular proportions for example or specific model(s) (you seem to be getting close to the latter). Then watch the releases each week or so now (while Operation 2 Weeks is ongoing - for how long we don't know) or wait for a more permanent offering to go up on the site. The other, if you have specific models in mind, is to place a WTB ad on the forum here and see as well as stalk the EX for the model you want. They do all eventually appear, you just need to be patient. You can also buy a Busse to try and then sell at little or no loss as they do retain their value well.

Ok can someone explain the grades to me?

"Battle Grade" is what Busse's been calling some recently released knives in SR-101 steel rather than INFI.

"Combat Grade" is what Busse typically calls their regular offerings that aren't "Limited Editions."

"Limited Editions," are typically (if not always) satin finished blades offered for a limited time as a regular offering from Busse.

"Competition Grade" was something that was offered on a few knives several years ago. These knives were basically straight out of the oven, without the decarb removed. Later on, they were offering "Competition Finish", which had the decarb removed, but were otherwise unfinished bare metal blades. By "unfinished," I mean not satin or Double Cut. Competition Finish is no longer offered, even as a special order.

"BIG Satin" (Busse Industrial Grade Satin) is a finish that was offered recently on a few blades in special offers. It's a rougher satin finish, and priced accordingly.

There are also military overruns that are occasionally offered, as well as other variants and custom shop blades. These are typically available at shows and "ganzaaas" A ganzaaa is a first-come-first-served free-for-all that you can read more about through the search function.

Or at least that's my understanding from hanging around here for almost a decade.

You might be better off starting with a Battle Grade. SR101 is still great steel.

My first Busse is in the mail now......... :o the wait is killing me.

Welcome to BladeForums, and the Busse forum!

1. We have a thread for that! http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...s-for-deer-season-Let-s-hear-from-the-hunters

2. TGLB. Team Gemini Light Brigade. Sold out, look for it on the secondary market.

3. There is a Busse Gladius, in both satin and less expensive coated, Combat Grade. Again, now only on the secondary market.

Check the Blade Forum, you may find something there that catches your eyes and interest
