Hello everyone. I'm newly interested in getting a Busse. Tried to stay away due to the price, but keep coming back for some reason.

My main question is how does the custom shop work? Is it fully custom, or dressing up current models? I'm having a hard time finding "the one" in the current model line up.

What's a good model to start with? I'm looking for a 7-8 inch blade, for a woods/camp knife. Something that qualifies as an all arounder/one tool. Kind of like the TG Crusader without the recurve, that's pictured in a thread here.

Any help, advice, recommendations, are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Give the shop a call. Best to get the info you seek straight from the boss hogs mouth.

But. Go with the Team Gemini Light Brigade. No recurve there bro.

NMSFNO, custom shop should have a blank and you can have it made up in the configuration you want, satin, painted, grip material etc etc.

Email Garth at the shop and go from there !!

Yeah...I'm still trying to figure out all the acronyms lol. I got nuclear meltdown part of that lol.
I feel way in over my head lol

Just googled that...at the top of the list now!

Nuclear
Meltdown
Special
Forces
Natural
Outlaw
Awesome blade! 8"
If you want something slightly smaller. SFNO (no rounded spine etc.)
7" long blade.
Just a fair warning there like pringles. once you pop you can't stop
But you'll have no regrets

If you are in no hurry, study the Bussekin models (Busse Bad Mojo site!), and watch the BF Exchange to get an idea on model availability, prices, etc. You should be able to come up with something in short order. I have only purchased B's in this manner, and am up to # 25 (I think)...;-)

Or a Basic 8. Also, don't overlook Swamp Rat, and Scrap Yard offering's. Great knives at lower cost. My SR Battle Rat has become my "go to" blade for most outdoor chores...;-)

Wow, this is by far the most helpful community to newbies. Thanks for the recommendations!!! Gonna do my homework.

Great idea. Soon you too will be speaking this strange language. There is also a Busse Collector website with a listing of these knife names. Also a page here on BF of which I do not possess a link. Perhaps someone here will share that. Good luck. We were all new once. Soon you will be spouting what seems to be jibberish to a non-follower...;-)

Tuica said it well. .....I too am very new.....still just a lil piglet. But....I'm learning and this is an awesome place to chat with great people. I have a TGLB, Ratmandu and Mean Street. ...love them. You will not be disappointed with a TGLB. In my opinion, everyone should own one. It's about as versatile as water....fits any situation, and the light weight helps for carrying it all day for days....you forget it's there.

The custom shop does both. They would make a standard model with liners on the handle for example or some other minor modification such as smooth grips instead of textured. They also will do a full custom blade of your design (a full custom is expensive, rumored to be $100/inch).

I agree with everything he said. The Basic 8 was recently released, but is only available on the secondary market, so watch the Exchange here (they are just starting to show up for sale). The Battle Rat and Basic 7 are older knives and both excellent; they show up occasionally for sale. The hard rubber handles on the Basic series (and Battle Rat) are very comfortable.

Another model you might consider is the FSH (the NMFSH is longer, thicker and therefore heavier than the FSH).

If you look on eBay, there is at least one price gouger, so beware (knowing what is a fair price applies anywhere).

Here are some websites to look at:

Welcome, and enjoy the hunt!

Thanks for the links, gk4ever2. That fellow with the extremely high prices does have some nice custom stuff you rarely see anywhere else. His products are currently displayed on a red background...;-)

That might also be "LK"?!!

The guy on the bay with the red felt...nice stuff but his prices are insane. Considering what the fees are on those pieces if they are sold....he must have a hell of a mark up.
Getting all too common

It's LK. And he is engaging in free market capitalism. As is his right. I also see other people asking very high prices on that same forum. Milton Friedman understood...;-)
