hello everybody I'm new to carrying a fixed blade, I don't want to wear it on my hip since I carry a pistol on my right and usually I'll carry and extra mag on the left. So my question is what blades offer a lower horizontal carrying capability on the lower back? Or is there a company that makes special kydex holsters for this type of carry for knives? Any input is greatly appreciated!

You didn't say anything about the size you want, but two I like real quick:

Small - Buck CSAR-T Liason; slip two zip ties through the sheath grommets and it's a great horizontal carry. Most compact discreet horizontal carry setup I own.

Larger - Gryphon M-10 with Boltaron sheath. I really like this one a lot horizontal. Also a good boot carry.

Also have to mention the original DPx HEST fixed blade by Rowen. Good for everything.

In both cases the knives themselves are excellent too. Anything over a 4" blade I'll let someone else recommend.

Yes, there are a lot of companies who make Kydex for knives and guns too. Should be very easy to google them.

Not sure I totally understand what you're looking for. There are a lot of horizontal sheaths that can be carried at the small of the back. I carry a Falknivin F1 in a horizontal sheath. I have a Kydex and a leather sheath from Jou'Fuu (forum member maker)--both horizontal.

I also from time to time will carry the F1 as a neck knife--usually when jogging or walking in shorts or sweats.

A lot of knives with Kydex sheaths can be mounted via a Tek-Lok or similar method. I have a Camillus Barbarian that I used to carry as you described until moving it to a backpack strap for convenience. Many knife manufacturers offer these standard, and others are compatible. If the knife you want won't accept a Tek-Lok with the factory sheath, odds are you can get a custom sheath made that will.

Of course I'm sorry the most I would go is 4 inch

OK...but you have both a knife and sheath need. Very few knives will come with a horizontal sheath. For under 4" blades I would start with Bark River unless you're looking for a tactical type fixed blade.

The DPx HESS 3.5 fixed is one great knife. You'll just need to find a sheath or sheath maker to fit your needs.

Dozier knives are a good choice also. I have seen some horizontal sheaths from the man but none were for your back they were all front.

I'll carry a esee izula with the stock sheath straped to my belt on my lower back or iwb front. And I carry the candiru in my fifth pocket (change pocket).

It is very uncomfortable to carry small of back

I too carry strong side and carry a fixed either cross draw in front of my reload on my weak side or behind my weak side hip

Here Is a video that explains sash carry and IWB carry and use of a static line

Bud Nealy and Laci Szabo should both have good options for you. I like the Szabo Felony Stop retrofitted with a Nealy MCSII system. You can buy the Felony Stop retail (made by TOPS Knives, so search for "TOPS Felony Stop") and you will need to contact Bud directly for an MCSII setup.

I second the Gryphon M10. It works just as well horizontal as it does vertical with the supplied spyderco g-clip.

Bud Nealy is the stuff, and a Bradford Guardian3 in the leather horizontal sheath would absolutely fit the bill also...
