new to edc

I will admit i love the look of the zt 0566 but im worried about the assisted opening. I live in mn and travel to nd almost everyday as far as i know the are legal to own but im not 100% certain. Otherwise i would probably buy the 0566 right now.

You can easily deassist the 0566.

well unless some one changes my mind before my next paycheck i think the zt 0566 in blackwash wins. I have couple more questions though. Is it worth the extra money to go with the carbon fiber handles? And what will the easiest way to sharpen it be? Im already looking for a nice sharpening kit. I can usually get sharp enough to cut paper but thats it.

SPyderco sharpmaker is a decent entry into sharpening. For even less you can get an Arkansas sharpening stone. This will work great, but might take some practice. Start off with your kitchen knives.

I have a smiths stone something or another with a 350 grit and 750 grit side. And then a smiths arkansas stone i use to after the 750 grit. Like i said i always can cut paper but its not cutting paper like some peoples knives.

Well that's entirely up to you. I think ZT does a good job with their carbon fiber. Definitely has a matte kind of texture, which makes it slightly gripper than the polished CF other manufacturers use. But deep down, I'm a G10 guy. I find the stock G10 scale gives me all the grip I need. Plus, I'm not afraid to gunk it up or anything.

You won't have any problems with assisted knives in either state. I'm in Fargo and may have a few knives in your price range. You are more than welcome to shoot me an email.

funny im in Moorhead.

on serious note found out my Arkansas stone has a grit count of 600 so I have been going backwards from 750 grit to 600. so am now looking for something better.

I'm surprised no one has recommended the Spyderco Endura (Or Delica). They are both extremely good EDC knives. Not to mention, well within your budget.

I have the ZT 0566. I love that knife. You can't go wrong with it.

Good luck.

I personally carry a spyderco para military 2. I had a ZT 0350 but the weight did not suit my preferences. I don't need a tank to carry around every day. I have been looking at the 0566 and it looks pretty nice. A few other knives (as others have already stated) would be the Spyderco Delica or Endura, and the Benchmade Griptillian. Honestly it comes down to weight, blade length, and steel and handle material choice. I personally like a medium sized lightweight knife. You may prefer the more beefy feel of the ZT knives. It comes down to what you want to use it for and how it feels in pocket (cause that's where its gonna be a lot of the time). Hope this helps and tell us what you get maybe with a pic of the new steel!

id like to start off saying I am pretty new to knives. my most expensive knife to date for edc is a Kershaw half-ton. im looking for something better to edc. the knife wont get abused much but knowing it can take it if need be would be great. I was looking at the zt 350 but im not sure if the recurve blade would sharpen well since Im not the best at sharpening. im not really looking to spend more than $150. any and all suggestions are welcome. thank you everyone in advance for the help.

I like the ZT 0350, but I have to admit I have as yet to sharpen one. There are a lot of Blades that will meet your $150 requirement, so I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions :-)

I have owned the ZT 0350 and the 0566. I still own the 0566. For my needs it was a better knife. Both of these knives are assisted. I never had issues with either knife's assist not working properly. The 0566 is also a bit less expensive, and hides in the pocket better.

Funny how this hobby makes us stupid haha. I just spent 500 on a knife and I swore I would never do that a year ago.

True words. New here but I always told a buddy that was into Benchmades he was crazy for spending that much on a knife. In the last few months I have bought a couple ZT's and REALLY have my eye on a small Sebenza. Funny how things change...

The 0350 is assisted just like the 0566 so if your worried about it they both have it, and both can be deassisted. :) Spyderco Sharp maker +1. Get the ultra fine stones once you get good at it. Get the Carbon fiber scales too, you will always wonder to yourself "what if", if you dont.

Best EDC folder I've found for under $150 has been the Benchmade Griptillian (full size 551), though i know plenty of people who love their ZT's and SpyderCo's
