New to Emerson

It will never happen, but I'd love to see an Emerson knife with tool-steel! No steel yet has out cut my tool-steel blade. But now, I have INFI to compare it to. This will be interesting!

First off, what's INFI (remember, I'm the new guy!). And second, I have always had a soft spot for tool steels too. I've made some fixed blades, both grinding and forging (I'm absolutely no risk whatsoever to those who do it for a living, but it sure is fun) out of O1 that I've had great results with. I finished one once, and my son, then age 8, was playing outside. He'd been handling knives safely for a year or so, so I enlisted his help. My instructions to him? "Break it!" We chopped, we sliced, we threw, we beat it around in a way that I cringe to think of now. Awesome stuff. Even had an edge left (sort of) when we were done. It ain't no Emerson, but even with a home-grown heat treat, it's my hunting knife to this day. Tool steels do indeed rock!

Casey---Go to the Busse Combat Knives Web-site. INFI, is a Steel that Jerry Busse developed and there is Nothing like it! Only Busse Knives can use INFI. At first, I was skeptical, not anymore! Phill Hartsfield made me a knife from tool steel and nothing has out cut it. I just got the Busse and will see, for myself, what it can do. Although after talking to INFI-holics, I believe them. Most are great guys! Tom Krien put a zero-grind on my HD-7 and that Emerson is my sharpest folder. :)

I am a fan of high carbon steel too, INFI is good fun as well but iv not had a huge abount of time to play with my Bussies as yet but my ASH eats bamboo like a mad man so im sure its going to be good :D:thumbup:

It would be possible to get a blade made for an EKI handle out of pretty much anything you want. I think "rusty" steel might proove to be more of a pain than a pleasure in a folder though.

The thought of a tool steel Emerson folder is interesting. I think it only goes so far though, becuase when getting into the type of use where a tough tool steel is clearly preferred over a stainless steel like 154CM I'm pretty much past the point where I want to be using a folder if it can be avoided.
