So I have around 15 folders, mostly Spyderco. I want to carry a fixed blade around because I find myself needing something more durable, and I'd rather not bear the crap out of my Spyderco southard. I want something with a sheath that can be clipped in a way where the sheath is on the inside of my pants. Blade has to be under 4 inches for legal purposes, but other than that I'm pretty open. Unfortunately the Ontario rat 3 is out of my budget, so I'm asking you guys and girls to maybe suggest something that would work for me. I was looking at the crkt minimalist but I'm not sure if be able to really use it hard. Any help would be great. Thanks

Not sure what your budget is but this is my Critter model and it's a great EDC knife. It's made out of CPM 154 and is 6-3/8" overall with a 2-3/4" blade length.

Sorry just saw the under $50 in the headline when I viewed the post on the laptop. Headline was cut short on the phone.

no worries, is the knife you recommended really out of my price range?

Don't worry, they'll handle 90% of the tasks you'd use a knife for

Each of them has a role in which they excel

I've used them for food prep

wood carving and engraving

meat slicing

little batoning (yup. I know I know...)

and paper/cardboard slicing

No problems so far, just beware of the tips.

Especially on the wharnie (it's my favorite as you may have guessed from the pics :D)

Use them for normal tasks and they'll surprise you, IME.

And for $50 you can find the three of them if you look around!

Nice recommendation, I love wharncliffe blades but have way too many haha. I was thinking between the Bowie and the drop point. I prefer drop point, but I'm not looking for a black blade..looks too tactical for me

ESEE Izula! The 440c one is really nice if you don't want a carbon blade.
great suggestion, I'm just having a hard time finding one under $50 besides this one with an obnoxious red white and blue paracord set up

Why must you tempt me with this!?!? I love your critter and western puuko models.

Get a becker bk 14 and strip it. Its a great edc fixed blade. I prefer the izula, but the 14 is no slouch.
