  • Today marks the 24th anniversary of 9/11. I pray that this nation does not forget the loss of lives from this horrible event. Yesterday conservative commentator Charlie Kirk was murdered, and I worry about what is to come. Please love one another and your family in these trying times - Spark

New to forging, what is the best technique for moving steel by hand.

"light orange" on that chart is about the hottest my eyes perceive it at. That's where it can start spewing sparks. One time i pulled my bar of steel out of the fire and it actually just fell into two peices where the heat was. Visually i would have thought it was around 900 degrees C. Clearly it was way, way hotter

Ooh, let's derail this into the variations in colour perception due to physiological, psychological, and cultural factors! :P Like is the middle light on a traffic light yellow or orange? Or this https://www.irregularwebcomic.net/polls/poll0155.html
This is before we even get into colour calibration of monitors! That's a whole other mess

Or let's not. Human colour perception is a mess. Treat anything like this as a guide, you have to learn to judge the temperature yourself. I mostly go by feel and sound, but i forge with IR goggles on in a bright space

This is why we invented thermometers
